I'm going to go with Furley. He was definitely an upgrade over The Ropers. They were just kind of annoying, frankly. Knotts, on the other hand, had better chemistry with the rest of the cast and could carry any scene all on his own.
Roper is GOAT. He owned the building and Helen. Furley was good comic relief but he still had to answer to his brother Bart. Now let's do one w/ the roommates. Great thread!
mr furley was funnier for the show, but id prefer to live in building managed by mr roper. does anyone know where you can watch this show? im surprised is not on nick-at-night or on amazon.
Have to go with Mr. Roper. It could be because I wouldn't say no to Mrs Roper. If I remember she was willing and able. Good show.
Funny you should ask...I started this thread after watching it during lunch today on IFC. The comedy still holds up well.
Not allowed to do a Threes Company thread without including the theme song. One version for each super. The moment it starts playing im instantly transported back to a bean bag on the horrific yellow and orange shag carpet in front of the huge @ss console tv my parents had in their living room back then. Im all about Don Knotts, BTW. Mr Roper made me want to punch him in the face with all his smarmy condescension.
Was about to say the same thing, Mrs Roper could get it. This is a great Question I love Don Knotts, Incredible Mr Limpet, Barney Fife etc. but I think Mr Roper was better in that part. Knotts was nothing more than googly eyes at that point.
I'm a Don Knotts fan, so I'm Team Furley. He was funnier. Roper just seemed like a "hey, I think I said something witty, so I'll smile and stare at the camera" kinda guy. BTW, some of the Jeffrey Tambor scenes were hilarious on there and the spin-off The Ropers. Weird. I was thinking a lot of the comedy would just be considered too sexist nowadays. I still find it funny that Jack had to play gay to stay in the same apartment with 2 women because the apartment management wouldn't allow a straight guy to do that. lol.
i remember him playing a creepy dentist who was obsessed with terri (or maybe it was chrissy or janet) and thought her and jack had something going on. jack went to him for a dental appointment and hilarity ensued.
Yeah. He played a pissed off dentist in that one. He was also in an episode as a pychiatrist dating Terri that they thought was a patient, if I recall. I think in this scene he was trying to remember the lyrics to a song or poem for the longest time, but they thought he was losing his mind. This scene was hilarious and another scene I'm not sure would fly too well today, but who knows :
Furley. Man, I loved this show as a kid. Slapstick and innuendo (which I didn't understand but got that it meant something else). Might be top 5 sitcom for me. Had a crush on Janet. I always wanted to open a bar called the Regal Beagle....and someone actually did a few miles from my house.
Since you liked Janet, and maybe you know this, but she had one of the weirdest requirements written into her contract (I think it was in there, anyway). From what I understand, she hated to show her bare legs, so you'll never see her without pants or pantyhose on. Even with shorts. lol.
