Any thoughts on rectec vs traeger pellet smokers? Trying to decide if the 592 sq inch rectec smoker will be enough for me

I have a Koda and I love it.

I use Vito Iacopelli's recipes on YouTube for dough.

I probably enjoy my Koda more than my grill.

I have the Ooni Fyra 12 (that runs on the same wood pellets for my grill). Love it. Use it a couple times a month. It's super easy and a nice and fun way to spend the afternoon outdoors w/ fam or friends.

do you find the 12 to be large enough? Im thinking about just spending extra on the 16 but maybe its not necessary?

I think the 12 is the perfect size. I cheat and use Mama Maryz brand of crusts which are about 8-10". I setup a table with all the toppings and I pump out pizzas every few min. Everybody gets to personalize what they want. My kids usually demolish about 3-4 each but the adults usually have 2-3 ea. so everybody has fun trying out different things. There's no negotiations and only problems is if I leave one in too long and get's burned.

For a tasty twist, try left over shredded/chunk chicken, BBQ sauce, and caramelized onions. Yum.

Heb. 1cu ft of pecan, or post oak, or mesquite splits is generally $8-10.

I don't have a spot set up to store a larger amount of wood from a dealer.

Thank you! Which HEB location do you typically find these?

I would have preferred the Koda 16 in hindsight.

My buddy wants a pellet pit, what says the bbs about Traager vs Yoder vs Camp Chef vs Pit Boss vs Green Mountain vs Z-Grill vs etc...?

I know virtually nothing about the current makes and models.

Update from me … took a while but eventually just bought a traeger from Costco - was a good deal and we don’t cook out regularly just enough so I didn’t need to do all the research yada yada. Just grabbed it at Costco one day. Works solid enough for me….

Does anybody here use a Masterbuilt Gravity Fed and if so, are you satisfied with the smoke flavor and bark formation? I use a stick burner, but my back and the Houston heat are starting to work against me. It seems the gravity fed offers the convenience of a pellet smoker without sacrificing too much smoke flavor.

Traeger's are pretty pimp. I use the "competition blend" of pellets. "Cheater pit" is what my bbq cookoff buddies call it. I get a lot more sleep than they do.

You need 1 smoker, 1 gas grill (quick chicken/shrimp/whatever) and 1 charcoal dude.

I bought the Ooni, from discussion a few months ago. Got the 12. We love it. Well built. It takes some getting used to as far as how to get the pizza off the peel turn it effectively and just cooking them the right way, but I have it down pretty good and it definitely makes better pizza than I can buy here.

The 16 would be awesome but i wouldnt make large pizzas like that often.

I talked **** about pellets for years. Have a badass cabinet smoker and a Kamado Joe, but my laziness and not wanting to waste entire days or nights messing with my smokers caused me to buy a Rec-Teq pellet grill. Best thing ever. Brisket is still better on the cabinet from a smoke flavor profile but butts and ribs are just as good and great bark on the butts. Plus I don’t prefer heavy smoke flavor on swine.
