Can we just weed out false sources opposing my own ideology while ignoring/supporting the false sources that are reinforcing my ideology?

    Asking for a friend.

    Was talking about this......

On February 16, ERCOT reported that 87% of total power shortages was caused by natural gas and coal generator outages, while only 13% of the shortages was caused by wind turbine outages.

Which bandwagon are you on? Trump and the GOP's death train?

We've been lucky in my part of our SW Austin neighborhood. Just two short power outages. Suddenly not having water is a surprise, though. At first it was "boil the water." OK, we can do that. Boiling the filtered water from our fridge, but now there's no water pressure. That is a major inconvenience.

You mean things like posting that wind is the least reliable source of energy?

We have a shockingly incompetent state government. Not the state employees. The top elected officials.

Hopefully this will be the last term for all of them. The so called conservatives are just selfish human beings in reality.

So, with all the fact checking, is the statement blaming windmills and green energy for the past week true or false?

Of course it's not true. Wind outperformed most other types of energy in this particular crisis. It may not fare as well under different circumstances, but it certainly performed better this week.

Don't forget the billion to billion.8 that Austin is thinking about giving Samsung.

The only thing wind might have outperformed is solar. Texas has about 30 GW of wind nameplate capacity, there were times on the 15th and 17th when it was lower than 1 GW.

When they said that wind did better, they meant it against forecasts (for some time periods, it was worse in others) but that is because predicting wind accurately (to better than 1 GW) is hard.

This morning I've been getting angry seeing the debate about what's happening in Texas on Minnesota discussion boards. There obviously is derision of Texas by those on the Left as this being an example of the failure of Rightwing ideology and this is being exasperated by misleading rhetoric and shameful actions of Texas politicians.

There has also been "Whataboutism" from those on the Right regarding whether Texas should get Federal aid there are those bringing up how Minneapolis is asking for state aid to deal with rebuilding after the George Floyd riots and to prepare for the Derek Chauvin trial. Leaving aside that these situations aren't comparable it's another example of the relativism that now pervades the Right. The inability to address anything that might reflect negatively on their own views without deflecting to something else even if they aren't related..

The wind turbines here in Minnesota operate fine in much colder weather. While Houston's low temperature this past week was 11 F (-12 C) Minneapolis was -20F (-29 C) and the wind turbines here were fine. In fact where the wind farms are in this state it was probably 10 degrees colder than in Minneapolis.

Also Houston hasn't recovered fine after the hurricanes. Many of the problems that were there during Hurricane Harvey are still there and there will still be major flooding and dislocation the next big storm to hit Houston. These are problems of infrastructure and aren't fixed easily or quickly.

It's not that difficult to fix, the physical and financial capability is there, but the state has been run for 25 years by people who have no interest in governing and solving problems at all - instead their interest has been in undermining it.

So, instead, you get Ted Cruz flyin' off to Cancun and the Governor of the state literally tilting at windmills to cover up for his failures.

There is perfect alignment on the GOP's position here and it lead down the road where it was always going. Now it's there.
