The Texans have yet to draw a marquee opponent in the first round of the playoffs either.... the closest being the Raiders, who were minus their QB (and the networks factored that in). They've also never been the best overall matchup that would win "game of the week" just going by records and star players (but you could make more of a case for it this year than any). This matchup is actually the more "sexier" matchup than Cowboys-Seahawks, but the Cowboys will always get that night game. Its a much better star/QB matchup than Bears-Eagles... but that game features two bigger TV markets overall along with the defending champs. I suppose they could have supplanted Chargers-Ravens, but the Sunday noon game isn't one of the marquee slots either.
I'm starting to worry that Watson will try and do too much and will have a bunch of turnovers because of it. Call it the jaded Houston sports fan in me.
Colts have a slight edge on O but the D swings in Texans favor. Home crowd advantage plus the will to win in DW4 and JJ WATT will make us more than competetive.
This is a good example of what Watson needs to do better today He's gotta see these blitzes coming even when they are disguised .
Mayne, clay walker aint even a fan. Why can't we have Garth Brooks do the National Anthem. Whatevs. Inspirational article on honey badgers: https://www.washingtonpost.com/spor...9a7eae-0eb5-11e9-831f-3aa2c2be4cbd_story.html
I don't know if that's the best example, to be honest. In theory it is, but in execution, Watson actually steps up and avoids the free blitzer, which as stated, is his responsibility, but then ends up getting sacked by the collapsing pocket. Davenport got beat one on one by a linebacker. That's most of the issue on that particular play. I agree with the premise, though. Watson has been bad at picking up outside blitzes. I expect the Colts to come heavy with them. The key to the entire game is negating their pass rush, between Watson and our line. If we can do that, and Watson decides he'll throw the ball away once or twice a drive, we'll be alright.
I disagree, if Watson sees the blitz coming sooner, he doesn't walk into a sack, he gets rid of the ball. Either way, we agree in principle that he's gotta do a better job of seeing blitzes coming and getting the ball out. Taking sacks kills drives.
They need to have several screen plays available that Watson can audible to when he recognizes blitz. I hope Keke can help with that. I hate when we try to pick up a blitz and run a quick out or something that you are hoping the line can hold for a couple seconds and hoping Hopkins can get open on a double team. Gash them early on some screens like teams do to us all the time and it will slow those blitz packages down.
I would prefer they get him signed to a long term deal, but there's no question you use the franchise tag on him if that can't get done. Hell you use it twice on him if you have to.
If they don’t come to terms on an extension I think it’s almost guaranteed he gets the tag. Gut feeling is he’s extended during training camp after a brief holdout. If he doesn’t holdout I bet the extension happens even sooner.
