Bickerstaff woke up in a sweat this morning with a sudden realisation

"I should have told the guys not to reach on Harden. Dang"

    End of section.

lol at ppl saying it is not enjoyable watching harden getting fouled , to me personally its very enjoyable and exciting...

ppl regularly say they enjoy grizzlies style grinding defense and lock down defenders shutting down ppl... why then wouldn't be as enjoyable watching a player outsmart those same defenders lolol

There's definitely a double standard in regards to defense vs offense in this scenario. For as long as I can remember there's been defensive players that skirt the rules by finding clever ways to foul the offensive player so the ref doesn't notice and this is considered standard savvy defense by most media members but Harden flipped the script on them. He can sell the foul and maintain his progression in the offensive set.

Tell that to the dumbasses who keep fouling him.

On the Sirius NBA channel today, during a discussion of Harden's amazing run:

Justin Termini said that he can't put Harden in the same class as guys like Kobe and Jordan because Harden refuses to play defense. Then Eddie Johnson chimed in to say if Harden just got a few more rebounds per game, that would count as playing defense because it gives his team more possessions.

Neither of them bothered to mention that he's among the lead leaders in steals (that doesn't give his team more possessions?) and among the best guards in defending the paint.

Then Termini goes on to say that since Harden has proven so adept at "exploiting the rules," it's up to the NBA to change them so this doesn't continue. You know, like when they outlawed Kareem's skyhook, Hakeem's dreamshake, Duncan's bank shot, and Gervin's finger roll, because they were also effective while working within the rules. Remember?

This is either lazy, lazy sports journalism or lying to pander to your desired fan base. Either way, it's despicable.

Of the most FT attempts for an entire NBA season, Harden has two spots in the top 50. He's tied for #24 (his 2016-17 season) and #44 (2015-2016).

Players who have all had more FTA in a single season than Harden:

    Wilt (7 times)
    Karl Malone (3 times)
    Jerry West (twice)
    Oscar Robertson (twice)
    Dwight Howard (twice)
    Bob Pettit (twice)
    Michael Jordan
    Shaquille O'Neal
    Charles Barkley
    Adrian Dantley
    David Robinson
    Moses Malone
    Bob Pettit

I suppose everyone on that list was uglying up the game as well?

Watching Harden play is just as "ugly" as watching Greg Maddux paint the corners and make batters look silly was. The fact that it produces a "boring" game is totally beside the point. It's f%$king artistry at work.

I don’t see the nba game action thread but anyone talking about the 17 FTs Leonard got in his career high? In other news we are about to take sole spot of 4th spot despite the horrible start and all the injured? How crazy is that? Huge props. Harden should already get MVP for that alone

MJ shot 27 in a game. Kobe did it twice and did 26 twice. People cry, but great scorers get fouled. It's 100% a part of the game. When Dirk was getting fouled in the 2010 playoffs, everyone was praising how efficient it was, but for Harden they get salty asf. Let them hate. 2-time MVP incoming.

I guess I just don’t understand how some don’t appreciate it. It is literally common sense. Free throws are just about the best way to put points on the board. He is both good at making and getting FTA. Something just about every NBA great has excelled at in one way or another. Why would anyone not exploit this? If you can admit that they are legit fouls then to me you can no longer lay the blame on Harden. Never mind the fact that if it was so easy to duplicate it, why on earth wouldn’t sone of these guys in the league think to themselves to do the same ****?
