nba Twitter is aware of this now

We’ve all joked about the #mediaconspiracy that some here love to deride, but it’s gotten out of hand.

Si, espn and bleacher report and yahoo sports are all taking regular shots at him now including mocking him for the Christmas Day win.

I’ve commented repeatedly about the obvious disdain for him among many in the media, but suddenly it’s like the orders went out to kneecap his image even more than before.

This goes beyond the nba Twitter hate for harden and a few blockheads at tnt, it’s now the twitter handles for basically every major media outlet that openly mocks him and derides his game regularly. What has prompted this?

I noticed that the hate and ridicule ratcheted up tremendously after he dropped that 50 point triple double on LA

after that, all this crying about freethrows and flopping reached new levels...then the travel gurus who can’t even hoop and don’t know the rule book started chiming in all over social media...it’s become so toxic

Interesting perspective. Would not rule this out with the amount of power Nike has.

Good thing is this has been going on for years and all the guy does is just get better and better. He adds a new wrinkle to his game every off season.

Location, location, location. Imagine if he played in NYC, LA or Boston, he would be the Chosen One.

Never pulled a Cupcake or a Decision or stat pad his way to an MVP, yet the sheer negativity and potshots from basketball "experts," social media and media organisations is downright disrespectful. You would think he invaded Poland and was responsible for WW II or something.

    Sad really.

Such a great player not appreciated like he should be. Even the haters should appreciate what they’re seeing night in and night out. All these garbage agendas being pushed is doing Harden a major disservice.

If people want to hate Harden, do it because he plays for the opposite team. It’s not all
that fair to diminish his game. How the hell can you really? Even picking on his defense is a bit lazy.

When I’d hate guys like Stockton, Malone, Kobe and so on, it was that they were the enemy. It surely wasn’t because they were lacking game.

Yeah it def ratcheted up after harden shyt all over lebron.

This isn’t even hardens most fta per game season so something happened this year to really get people in their feelings.

Then that one travel against the jazz the refs didn’t call gave harden haters the one clip to say that all of his stepbacks are like.

There's obviously something going on against Harden and it's out there by at least two/three years...right now is just louder than ever.

It's fashionable to mock James Harden. Old men behind keyboards and cameras see that as a way to relating to the younger audience they so desperately crave.

Lebron James and Rich Paul may have something to do with it.

    - Harden kicked Lebron in the junk a few years back
    - Harden won the MVP over Lebron last year
    - Harden didn't bow down to the Lebron alter this offseason
    - Lebron's friend says that Harden is the best offensive player in the NBA
    - Lebron's friend is "treated badly" by Rockets organization and won't be released yet
    - Lebron's team is embarassed by Harden and the Rockets
    - Harden isn't Nike, Lebron is

I think it's something like this. The more mainstream NBA media has found out that Harden mockery gets clicks / YouTube views, so that's the path they go.

    Plus:

A sort of groupthink is taking over. They keep hearing that Harden is this or that and eventually they came to believe it. Now because of confirmation bias everything confirms that Harden is in fact this or that.

I don't watch any NBA talk shows and try to only follow good analysts on twitter so I have not seen what OP is talking about, but if his description is accurate (and I don't doubt him) I think a logical explanation is some mix of the two items mentioned here: trolling for clicks and groupthink.

Harden is the obvious target, but the internet is just a hateful and negative place nowadays. Just check the comments sections of almost every highlight package on any platform. It’s a bunch of clickbait funny guys trying to get likes. Better to just ignore the hate and appreciate the objective pieces.

I said after the Lakers game, if LBJ had got the 50 point triple double, they would STILL be fellating him.

But Harden? Flops. Refs love him. Every time he shoots a free throw, an angel loses his wings.

A player in OKC gets constant praise for scoring 20-30 point triple doubles on 35-40 percent shooting. Idk if location matters much.

It's been this way since the LA 50 point game. Before the season even began, all the NBA media decided this season was all about Lebron in LA. Anything that gets in the way of that narrative has to be stamped down.
