if there is one thing i know for sure ...That Deing contract makes the Ryan Anderson contract look like ...that 1st Chandler Parsons contract. $50 mil over the next 3 years for a guy who can't even play? at least Anderson could shoot. all Deing can do is rebound ...and not even at an elite level.

If this is gonna happen, i wonder if Minnie is sending an additional player. I've read rumors of names like Tyus, Taj, and Dieng but i dont know what's real at this point.

Does anyone know if any of those names are tangible? Do any of them make sense from a salary matching stand point?

Imagine Morey offering 4 first rounders to Minny for Butler without getting any assurance that he would sign here longterm.

i've wanted Tyus Jones since draft night. I will never understand why Morey passed on him.

Yes, he is an under rated back up pg. His numbers when he starts are surprising. Gets a lot of steals too. He would be a good addition, and worthy of rotational minutes.

Butler, Dieng, Jones for Gordon, Knight, Chriss/Nene, 2019 unprotected 1st

Minny gets a good rotation piece and a 1st, while offloading Dieng

Rockets get their guy, take a flier on an expiring young player, and a backup big. We can use future picks to route Dieng elsewhere as our tax bill skyrockets in the next few years

Yes - because the deal would be for Dieng as the centrepiece! lol...

If that's what it takes to get Butler over the line, you do it. Of course, we're assuming Butler would sign here long term (unlikely as that may seem to some out there, but those same people had PG13 going to LA, right?). It helps Minny unload the contract they want to unload, but at the same time we clear a 'yuck' contract in Knight (which is just about as bad, except 1 year shorter). By taking Dieng you save on having to send a trillion picks (Brooklyn style - eek!), because the price to dump Dieng is 2 firsts. At this stage, Minny might just believe Knight can still play - but whether he can or not remains to be seen (and if he can't, his contract is worse than Dieng's - who can at least rebound and hit 36% from corner 3).

it may be worth it to get Butler in our small win-now window, but damn that contract is painful.

If not via trade there's the MLE to use in the buyout market ;) this will also allow the Rockets to give some time to Hartenstein (and Zhou maybe) to see if/how he develops during the season.

i would go Gordon, Knight, Chriss 2019 unprotected and 2023 top 14 protected for Butler and Taj and Jones

I like Gordon a ton but this helps the Rockets right now and actually gives Melo a clear role as 6th man offensive spark. Right now with Gordon there which person is supposed to be the offensive spark? Gordon had issues with both him and Lou coming off the bench and it looks like he is having issues understanding his role with Melo now off the bench as well.

    JH/CP3/JB/PJ/CC

    with
    Melo/Ennis/Taj/MCW/GG/Jones

is far more balanced bench and starting unit IMO
