I wasn't sure what to title this thread. I was thinking about this after the Titans lost was heartbroken. None of the teams that I wholeheartedly root for have ever won the Championship teams save the Rockets in '94 and '95. Anyone else think about this? I'm talking about you have been a fan of this team for a long time and have followed them no matter what, through thick and thin. I know there are lots of bandwagon fans who just follow the team that is winning i.e. lots of Laker fans, most Kings fans outside of Cali. 1. Oilers/Titans----enough said, they break your heart every year but I still follow them. They got close a few years back but no cigar. One more freakin yard and they would have forced OT. 2. Houston Rockets----I started following them in '91 when I moved here from Africa. I fell in love w/ them instantly even though I didn't know much about basketball besides who Micheal Jordan, Magic, Bird and Dominique Wilkens were. I think I liked them so much mainly b/c Hakeem was from Nigeria and he had incredible skills. The two championships were great but since it's been frustrating but I still watch every single game. 3. Miami Heat---I liked them b/c of Alonzo Mourning, I have been a big fan ever since I saw him hit that shot against Boston in game 5 of the playoffs. Every single year since ZO and Riley teamed up they won 50+ games and 61 I believe one year but just couldn't escape heartbreak after heartbreak against the Knicks. 4. Holland (soccer)---Every world cup/Euro cup, they have one of the most talented teams in the world but it never fails, they come up short. Maybe it is me, if I stop rooting for these teams they will eventually win...haha. All in all, this is what makes sports so great. The agony of defeat and coming so close but when they finally win the championship it is great. Imagine how great the players who actually put in all the hard work and time into it feel after becoming a champion. Sorry for making this so long, just brings back great memories. I guess I just want to see how it is that people come to become die hard fans of the teams that they support.
I'm a big homer. Pre-2000 1) Oilers - I was a diehard Oiler fan back in the day. I lived and breathed Oiler football and paid the consiquences for it with heartbreak. 2) Rockets - The Rockets championship years was the most exciting times in Houston sports history as far as I'm concerned. 3) Astros - I'm a fan but baseball will always come after football and basketball to me. Post-2000 1) Texans - Football will always be #1. 2) Rockets - Still at #2, but the Astros are close now. 3) Stros - World Champions in 2004 baby! 4) Titans/Oilers - still keep up with my old team and only cheer for them to lose when they play the Texans. 5) UT Football
Basketball -- I've always been and always will be a Rockets fan. And it's not even close. The Rox are 3-4 seasons from a championship run, but I can wait. Baseball -- I was an Astros/Red Sox fan until last season, when I was swept up by the Sox' pennant run. They're my team now, through thick and thin. Of course, the initiation could have been a little less painful. (Effin Grady and Effin Boone). Football -- I was all about the Oilers. When they moved, I lost interest in the NFL. I've become a half-hearted Patriots fan, but they'll never replace the Oilers.
My sports loyalties: 1. Houston Rockets - No question here. 2. UT Football 3. UT Basketball 4. Houston Texans 5. Houston Astros
My sports loyalties: 1. Houston Rockets 2. UT Football 3. Houston Texans 4. Houston Astros 5. UT Basketball
1. Longhorns football 2. Tennessee Titans 3. Houston Texans 4. Houston Astros 5. Houston Rockets 6. UT Basketball
The only sport I keep up with is basketball, and since Hakeem, Rudy, et. al left it just ain't the same. But anyways, the Rockets and Comets are on about equal footing now. No other loyalties.
I follow the Yankees, Rockets, and Buccanneers, so I have been pretty fortunate in the last decade or so: the 2 NBA titles were before my time (I was a Barkley only fan for a while), but I can still bask in the afterglow and when people around here (NorCal) tell me the Rockets suck and I should be a Kings fan, I can ask them how many chamionships the Kings have won. 4 World Series Titles - SWEEEEEET 1 Super Bowl
1.) Oakland Raiders 2.) Houston Rockets 3.) Minnesota Twins 4.) Any College Football team who plays Florida State
1. Houston Astros 2. Houston Rockets 3. Houston Texans 4. Purdue football 5. Purdue basketball 6. LSU baseball (only reason that when I was a little kid I lived in Baton Rouge and went to the Tigers games a lot)
1. Houston Rockets 2. Houston Texans 3. Houston Astros 4. UT Football (because of Earl Campbell) 5. UH Basketball (because of Phi Slamma Jamma) 6. Anyone who plays the titans 7. Anyone who plays the cowboys I actually pull for all the old SWC schools. Texas has the best high school football in the country and it's not right that a Texas college hasn't won a NC since 1969. It's our birthright!
Oh **** someone else has a Big Lebowski sig. I think we should all get them. Their the best. I love myself.
