Nets and Heat, two teams rumored for Melo destination just made moves to increase salary. I actually feel the Melo buyout is coming soon
Cue the Bible verse tweet lol. I think it was just yesterday that Lin said Nets assured his agent they weren't going to trade him lol.
At this point Dumping Anderson does nothing but save us some tax bill money. However, if Tilman is ok with eating it this season, next year at the trade deadline his 21m expiring is a big trade asset. We’re over the cap the next two seasons, might as well save our assets at this point.
Lol how is anderson going to be a trade asset next year? Melo is an expiring contract whom many here believe is much better than Anderson AND currently has negative trade value. This isn't 2015 or 16, expiring contracts have little value
They will always have value, cap space is very important. Look at this off season for example, very few teams have cap space, the teams that did could effectively set the market. Look at the rockets, we would of killed for cap space this offseason. Cap space is a big time asset, you can add players or use it absorb players for picks.
Cap space has value that hasn't changed, expiring contracts now only have value in trades when they are use to match a worst/longer contract or to match salaries. In short, little value. Denver just gave up a 1st and 2nd round pick in order to rid themselves of 20million of expiring contracts. Both fatied and Arthur expire at the end of the year.
No. It's a minimum deal. However, we might use about $800k of it to sign Melton, so we can do a 3yr deal to avoid later Arenas Rule, RFA poison pill offer sheets. Vet minimums are limited to 2yr deals.
Depends how you want to package him. Right now OKC simply wants to get off his money to avoid a huge luxury tax bill. So they don't want to take salary back. We would trade him for a useful player at a similar salary... maybe on a longer contract. We'd have to throw in a pick but only to acquire the new player, not for the team to take Anderson's extra year which right now might need require another pick. I would agree with you that the inherent fact of being and expiring is devalued next year because so many teams have such contracts from 2016.
How is that nets and nuggets trade possible when the salaries don’t match for both teams? Could Houston had done that with Brooklyn using Anderson and Onuaku
