Carmelo Anthony has gone from being overrated his last few years in New York to being underrated here after a bad season in OKC, where he spent many possessions watching Russell Westbrook pound the life out of the ball. Even in his declining state, he’s still a better basketball player than Trevor Ariza or Luc Mbah a Moute. All that said, the Rockets do need to find a cheap perimeter defender or two to replace what Ariza and Luc provided them on defense.

that defense is what kept us in games when we weren’t making shots...that defense was a major factor in us being up 3-2 against GS... GS not even worried about this team after losing it’s 2 best perimeter defenders and adding Melo...imagine Melo out there for 30 minutes a game trying to execute this switching scheme against GS
Wow. We lose Trevor and his D and now we lose Luc and his D so we can get a chucker in Melo??? WTF How does losing Trevor and Luc help against the Warriors? Warriors probably leave him open and hope he shoot so it screws CP,EG, and Harden
It will be like watching those 8 minutes of Ryno in game 7 and watching the Warriors score on him EVERY TIME. That's what Melo will be on D
I suppose the plan is to beat opponents with a strong offense so there is no need to worry about the defense.
Rockets found a way to potentially beat the Warriors and decided to completely go away from it. Cool!
a lot of people don’t value defense on here “we would’ve won game 6 or 7 if we had Melo” is a common post...no we wouldn’t, because having Melo out there for 25+ minutes would’ve hurt our defense
No, Gerald Green is not enough. The Warriors lost no one and added an all-star. No chicken little, just a realist. Unless Morey has something up his sleeve we got worse.

Smokescreen...yeah...Rockets were always going after Melo. That's common sense. I think Morey is secretly trying to get Jonathan Simmons from Orlando. Orlando is rebuilding and they have a stud in Jonathan Issac (I believe that is his name)... Simmons would be a perfect fit! How the Rockets get Simmions? Not sure
In no way am I saying that Melo is the answer on defense. I am saying he's more offense we needed. you can coach lesser players in defensive players.
