He is a restricted free agent he can be matched the Celtics are doing to him what Houston is doing to Clint Capela.
I know this I was just pointing out that we can’t sign him cuz we have no cap space. Not to mention we have CP3 so you aren’t gonna pay 15 mil for a backup pg.
15 is the money HE said he wanted. I would be surprised if the Celtics matched 12 per tbh. Will he dare with his injury history to take the QO?
It's pretty surprising they didn't throw all of their capspace at Zach Lavine and see if the Bulls balk. He might actually be a good pairing with Fox in the backcourt though I guess if you already have the 2nd coming of Steph Curry in Buddy Hield (according to Vivek) why bother?
I think we should try and get Capela to agree on a 3 year deal at a number under what he was hoping for but with a player option on the 3rd year. He won’t get as much as he would like but it would still be way more than the qualifying offer for next year. Then his second year he’ll be underpaid but can then opt out and get more. We’ll definitely have Ryno off the books by then (probably sooner). Can pay him big then. So maybe 3 year, $40 million with a player option after year 2. I think he’ll be a lot happier with that than playing at the qualifying offer for the year. And we never give out player options so it shows some good faith from us.
Not a fan of player options. They never work well for the team. Eithee the player leaves or his contract becomes a hindrance to the team.
So he'll make $26 million over 2 years...rather than take the ~5 million on the QO on year one and then go and get at least $15 million a year on a contract next summer. There's nothing happy about that scenario. If we want to show "some good faith" then we need to make a legitimate offer that stops him from even thinking about taking the QO. $13 mill a year is not that legitimate offer.
Very disappointed we didn't go after him. IIRC Codman referenced him many times as one of our targets in the past. With Nene on his last legs, I don't get it. Hartenstein must be the 3rd big then.
This! Also, last year Dallas traded a NG player to Houston for CASH. Dallas knew what Houston was doing cobbling together the "human trade exception" and they participated. YES CUBAN. He didn't care. Dan Gilbert when he was COMIC SANS pissed at LeBron STILL traded him to Miami for assets. In business there are relationships that extend through time. On FAN FORUMS we get all worked up about "being stubborn and cutting off our nose to spite our face."
