I like Shipley's. I hate Crispy Cream because it is nothing but sugar. There are several local places in LA that are pretty good. But Shipley's is still my favorite. It might be partially the nostalgia at play.
The Random Asian run donut places seem to have a similar recipe I like. Seem lighter, not as sweet, kind of vanilla-ee-y
Good seeing Texas expanding. I'm seeing more and more Shipley's and Whataburgers outside the State Line. Kreme is cool how you see the process... at least one in Austin did. Not sure if they all do.
This. Always better than the chains. Examples are AM Donuts and Donalds donuts and Dannays donuts. They also have big sausage in kolaches.
Shipley's for regular donuts. Especially if they're warm. But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a sucker for Voodoo donuts or Hurts donuts.
Shipley's glazed is pretty much the best glazed donut I've ever had. But I usually choose donut places based on the kolaches, so I go to Bakery Donuts in the Heights (there's also one in Mo City).
Like many in the thread, I'm not a big donut guy. But, Shipley always hits the spot. I do not like over-the-top places like Voodoo or Gourdough's in Austin. Their donuts are way too much and I've felt awful after eating them.
Substitute grease for cholesterol because not all grease has cholesterol. Grease + Sugar = The Unhealthiest Food ever Taste great though !!!
