Game 1 wasn't must win by either team. Warriors won but it was a close game mostly. Game 2 was must win by Rockets and blew out the Warriors. Game 3 was must win by Warriors and blew out Rockets. Game 4 is must win for Rockets. If pattern holds they win it.
I'm not even sure what a "must win" is, to be honest with you. That's some real couch coach terminology.
Disagreed on game 1. Game 1 should absolutely be a must-win game for the team with HCA. If the road team wins game 1, it sets a tone and the home team's psychology is shaken. To be honest, its the conference finals. Every game is a must win. You could have relaxed a game in the Minny and Utah series, but not against Golden State. GS is too good for you to not mark every game as a must-win game.
This series is far from over. The Rockets can play a hell of a lot better than they did in this game. Like you say, they need to bring it in game 4 like the season is on the line. Harden and CP have to be at the top of their games.
The series will be tied on Tuesday. With Harden/Paul/Capela, Rockets have won all their games after a loss.
This is nuts......every game is a blowout.... it is the No 1 seed against the No 2 seed - sad smile. Will need hours to digest this.
I honestly think the term "must win" is over used. We've never seen a team come back from being down 3-0. But we've seen teams with home court advantage lose their first two games at home then come back to win the series. We've seen teams be down 3-1 and then come back to win the series. That said.. game 4 is basically a must win
You have home court, every game on it is a must win. The fact that a team like the Rockets who have not won squat, would play like ANY game in the playoffs is not must win is a problem. DD
Agree with both of you except I have very little confidence the Rockets will win game 4. I was incredibly disappointed how the "magnitude of the moment" threw them off in game 1. They should have been primed and ready to go. After game 2, the team was much too celebratory afterwards. I felt this blowout coming (not by 41 points, of course). This Rockets team doesn't have the maturity to beat the Warriors. It's very frustrating watching them be loose with the ball and miss easy shots in a pivotal game 3. Those were signs they weren't mentally prepared tonight. Shame on them. Laying the egg in game 1 will end up being the difference in the series IMO (though it wouldn't surprise me if this is over in 5). CP3 has a chance to redefine "Playoff Chris Paul". He needs to start torching their bench and nailing the long ball.
Still have a chance to go 2-2. Not a great chance, but there is still a chance to salvage home court.
So far this is holding to form with each team winning its "must win game". It didn't look that way with Rockets down by 12 at the beginning of 4Q on the road. It was a must win game and Rockets did it! But now Game 5 is coming up and there is no longer really a game that is a clear must win for one of the two teams. Whoever wins it probably wins the series.
