Mods if this is in the wrong forum, please move!

After reading Drewdog's and robbie380's threads, it got me to thinking.

How many people have lost their jobs in the past year?

I was laid off in October.

I changed jobs at the beginning of the year, but it was my choice.

Wow, that is a long time

Was it your choice to not work for that time, or did you really have that much trouble finding work. If so, that's scary.

August. You should have a poll instead! But I live in California and it's worse here.

I vigorously searched for a job throughout the duration of that period (as many around here can attest to).

I got nowhere. My field sucked and the economy sucked. I eventually had to do a career 180 and switch fields altogether. I'm not all that happy with the field I am in now, but I do get substantial quarterly bonuses, have already been promoted, and been provided underlings as assistants in a period of 6 months.

But nothing beats my original field for me (except sports journalism of course)

You should call out bammslammer, that's what he does in Atlanta. Maybe he can help you out.

does it count if i just couldn't get a job and am now going to graduate school so i have something to show for the next 2 years?

like 8 people in ChE at UT have a job right now, and a lot just graduated. it's ridiculous.

I'm looking for a job for this summer, without success.

Supposedly, anybody with anything above about a 3.3 at UT Law shouldn't have trouble getting a summer job. That's what they told us, at least.

Oops. I have quite a bit over a 3.3... and no luck. And I'm not the only one that I know of.

Everyone keep says that the economy's getting better... but I'm already dreading graduating in 1.5 years and having huge student debts and no job.
