Hired a search firm to interview an internal candidate and a guy who used to work here. This was a fraudulent search. Knew it when McNair made his comments about the new GM not being able to bring in his own guys.
Hahahahahahahhahaha! Hire someone who’s been here before, who worked with Rick ****. Such a Texans move. This guy is another puppet move.
Familiar name; fake search Coach gonna get a 4 or 5-year extension More things change, more they stay the same.
This just reeks of Rick coming back in a year or two. He'll come back as Senior VP, our offensive line and secondary will likely still stink, and Rick will just slide back into his role as GM to "save the day". The more I think about it, this is very convenient that he would get to take off the year where he left his new (or interim) GM with no 1st or 2nd round picks, then he can come back with a normal draft and the extra pick from the Duane trade (that he'll likely screw up). I'm not saying Tiffany isn't sick & all, but the more layers we peel back, the stinkier this whole thing gets. If they were serious about making real changes, they'd wait to at least interview the guys from the Pats and Eagles. What exactly did this search firm do, anyway? Maybe they did their due diligence and discovered that the guys from the Pats and Eagles said "hell naw, I'm not going to that $hit show in Houston".
I think they wanted to have someone before the senior bowl since the coaching staff will be coaching practices. And about your Rick Smith conspiracy, Gaines is an OBrien guy. Apparently he left partially due to Rick Smith. If that is true, this is does not bode well for Rick coming back as the GM.
If he's reporting directly to the McNair's, I'm not sure why the Senior Bowl matters. It just seems insignificant if their goal is to get the right guy. Most of that take is tongue-in-cheek, but they clearly had no intention of even speaking with any up-and-coming personnel guys. I'm not saying Gaines will do a bad job...he's just been dealt a crappy hand when it comes to the roster he's inheriting. I realize Gaines is a BOB guy, but he did report to Rick. Since Rick is so tight with the McNair's, it just seems to easy for him to slide back in. I really, really, really hope I'm wrong. I had zero fears of Rick coming back if it had been another GM that took the job. The fact that it's Gaines just leaves the door open, IMO...even if ever so slightly.
Bill O Brien the GM. Coach. Offensive Coordinator. Suck at your job and get consistent raises. Great life.
