Have you followed Juugie's logic long enough for over a year before throwing another lame @ss comment like this? There are so many negative threads out there about Yao and have you seen me fighting facts like Yao not being aggressive enough or not having enough vertical, etc.? You are the one who should look at yourself what's wrong with yourself!

    I don't hate Yao.

You never hear me call Yao any names the way you all call Steve and Cuttino names.

To say you don't think a guy will be dominant is not hating.

To make personal attacks like calling someone stupid, idiot, brainless, worthless. That's hating.

I have always said that I thought Yao would be a very good player but not great.

That's not hating. That's my opinion. Somehow it infuriates Yao-fans to insinuate that Yao will not be the best player ever and dominate all life on the planet.

Does anybody see a pattern from the Yao haters predicting Yao 's career would be like here?

Before Yao even had a chance to show what he can do. They said he's a bust, a chinese version Manute Bol.

In Yao's first year : Yao =Rik smits. ( remember Polytheus?)

35 days into Yao's 2nd year: Yao = Joe Barry Carroll

I wonder by the end of the season or next year. Who would they predict Yao equal to? ( I'm hoping it's Patrick Ewing then after that it's Akeem:D)

Yao's stats is better than last year, is better than last year's rookie. What do you want from a second year center from freign contry? His stats already close to 20/10. Has been stabe game by game. If it's not s Guard dribbing too much, some nights he should dominant. What is your definition of dominatnat ? I remember even in Hakeem's title year, a lot of people still complained his rebond ability, thought he could got every rebound. I did not watch tonight's game, considering opponet'slow FG, it's reasonable to see them get some offense rebounds.

It's not hater or only fan, just be reasonable, and pateint a little bit. Overall, this year, Yao did better than I expect .

Oh lord, let's be honest. Those old centers would beat the snot out of Yao Ming. We have power forwards in the league who are able to do that to him right now, often able to deny him post position on the floor. Yao doesn't have the strength or conditioning to deal with physical, full sized centers every night which is what we used to have in the league. He's as timid as Joe Barry was lazy.

You 'don't hate Yao', but you make a thread based solely on how he won't be as good as a lot of people think.

Just a question...have you made a thread like this about Francis? He's been here longer, makes a lot more cash, and is looking worse this year than any other year...yet all you can do is be mad at people for bashing him and then you make a Yao bashing thread. Quit acting so oblivious.

just a question, how many threads, pages, and posts have been dedicated to saying francis will dominate the league in 3 years, that francis will lead us to titles in a few years, that francis will be one of the all time greats? maybe there were some in his rookie year before i was posting here, but i've never seen any. for yao, there have been plenty. so Juugie just said he doesn't think he'll be that good. i guess if more of the steve threads were like "i don't think he'll be an all-star this year" instead of "i've had enough", "trade him for ginobili", etc the situations would be analogous.

What do you want from a second year center from freign contry?

that's all fine and well. but what you want from a 2nd year foreign center and an all time great/best player in the league type guy are different. hakeem, shaq, drob even were all 20/10 out of the box. yao is 23 and may not be there this year. he's doing well, but there's a difference b/t what he's doing and what the guy's he hyped as being as good as did. now maybe he just keep improving for 5 or 6 years to the point he is 25+ ppg/12 rpg or so like the greats. but as this point he's behind the curve of greatness.

Just like Francis 4 Prez said, people think Steve can be a great player buy a lot of people here think that Yao will be as great as Jordan - or even better. And what I'm saying is, someone that good doesn't develop into. They have it. Someone that good doesn't need dominate IF the guard throws the pass at perfect timing, IF the refs call certain fouls, IF the coach calls certain plays, etc. They just come out and do it. No matter how much you foul them. No matter how late/bad the pass is. Just put the ball in their hands, and they will take over the game by their sheer WILL to dominate. The NEED to dominate, inside they have a need to do it. Yao does not. He doesn't have a burning desire to dominate that doesn't let him sleep well at night if he has a subpar game.

That's not something you develop. All of the greatest of all time players were super competitive. They hated to lose at anything. If Yao were that competitive, after AK47 blocked his shot, he would have made sure he went off for 30 or so. Instead, he said on his own BBS, he made the adjustment and started passing the ball. After being blocked that many times, Yao was scared to shoot. You could see it in his eyes. You can't have that mentality and be one of the greatest ever. Period.

And as for being the best player in the league in 4 years, there are kids all over the planet fine tuning their games waiting to come to the NBA. There will always be great talent in this league. Never undersestimate it. Always respect the league.

The key here is that you need to put the ball into their hands. It's very hard to take over the game without it. You've never seen Jordan and Bird doubled BEFORE they got the ball either. With current rule, opposing coach can completely shut down other team's star if he wants too. Look at what we did to Carter and Iverson.

You must not have watched many games that Jordan and Bird played either. Of course the refs protected them. You couldn't breathe hard on either without getting a foul called. You are delusional if you think the refs don't matter.
I saw this line against Utah, 2nd game: 6-12FG, 8-10FT, 20pts, 8 rebs ... What did you see in his eyes?

What I keep seeing is some fans praise Yao for having a good game. Maybe 20-10 or so ... Others like you insist that it is not good enough .... that it is mere mortal ... Yao is not a god .... and start bashing him.
It's a bit over-reacting and when you don't have the logic, or the stats to back it up ... it just does not have much merit.

They are very reluctant to throw a pass over the fronting player. I think this may be due to Yao's tendency to not grab the ball and hold it up high strongly. I'd like to see them try even if it confirms that. He was open on the front with no weakside help a few times last night.

Yao very rarely is doubled before he gets the ball for one.

Two, Bird could dominate a game with 10-12 shots. He would also do whatever it takes to win. A telling fact is that the 6'9' Larry Bird has a higher career rebounding average than 7'5 Yao. Bird didn't have great talent or great size. He had an ubelieveable will to win and to dominate. Honestly, no matter how tall he was, Larry Bird would have been dominant. You can't say the same about Yao. If he were 2 to 3 inches shorter, no one would be saying much about him. A 7'2 or 7'3 guy doing what he does is basically Big Z in Cleveland. But becuase he's 7'5 instead of 7'3, he's supposed to be the best ever.

Three, if you ever was lucky enough to block one of Jordan's shots, you'd better get ready cause dude was coming after you. Remember in the Finals when the media started to say that Clyde was just as good as Jordan and that Clyde was a better outside shooter? Jordan went nuts from the three point line just to let their be no doubt who was better. It's not about having a decent line. It's about taking a challenge personally and raising your game to insane levels to make sure you are at the pinnacle.

Four, I am not downing Yao for being mortal. All I said was I think he'll be a good 20/8 guy and that he doesn't have the mentality/personality to be the most dominant player in the game.

Why only 8 rebounds? He already averages about 10 rebs this season. He's in the top 5 of the league in double doubles and top 12 in rebounds per game. And if not for the first couple of weeks in the NBA last season where he received no playing time, he would have averaged 10 last season as well.

I was of the opinion before the Rockets drafted Yao and still feel the same way that if all Yao ever ends up being is a Rik Smits clone, it's still worth drafting and keeping Yao.

I don't understand how you can act like if Yao's not Shaq or Duncan that he's some kind of failure that you trade for the likes of Amare Stoudamire or Penny Hardaway or whoever else you've suggested trading Yao for.

You do not trade away a 20/10 center that is a huge cog in the defense unless you receive a Duncan or Shaq in return. There's only 3 players in the NBA that are 20/10 players (Shaq, Duncan, and Garnett). That's pretty damn good class to be in if Yao can someday get those kind of numbers.

Wow. I've never seen one person here say anything like he'd be as good as, or better than Jordan. You're really bitter about something if trying to exaggerate this badly.

JBC played in an era of no defense. The average NBA team would easily score over 100. In fact, if a team held their opponent to less than 100, it was seen as a great defensive effort.

That is completely different than today's game where just the opposite is true.

Yes players are less skilled today in the fundamentals. However, the main reason is teams focus greater energy on the defensive end.

Adrain Dantley, Alex English, Bob McAdoo, and almost every NBA scorer in the 70's and 80's couldnt play a lick worth of defense. The only defensive specialist in the league 20 years ago was TR Dunn of the Nuggets.

You cannot compare statistics from 2 different generations and draw any rational conclusions. This is why your analysis is superficial and worthless.

Few people claimed Yao is great now. But he does show the potential to be a great player.

BTW, it's still steve's team. You can't expect Yao to produce 25+ ppg if he only shoots 12 pg.

Great point. I'm watching the 1971 NBA finals on NBA.com and none of these guys are hacking, banging, or pressuring anyone with the ball. Almost everyone gets an open shot and almost everyone that gets hit in the act of shooting goes to the line. Its a joke that no one acknowledges this when comparing players from the past.
