I have no doubt that in the next year PR will lose a lot of its population to emigration. Moving though isn't that easy. A lot of those on PR are poor with few resources to help them settle in other parts of the US. At the same time consider there was resistance and a backlash against Katrina refugees so there will likely be resistance to large numbers of Spanish speaking PR refugees. On top of that according to recent polling half of the US population doesn't even realize that Puerto Ricans are US citizens. Given the current political environment that is suspicious of immigrants that is likely to fuel into more distrust of refugees from PR.

Three is a lot of truth to that article and the main reason I left the Red Cross was because of how bureaucratic they were. That said they are in a tough position and considering how high profile they are they need to be careful. For example let's say they didn't conduct backgroud checks on volunteers and a convicted sex offender was managing a Red Cross shelter. Of if they allowed a drive without a CDL to drive a truck of aid and that person got into a fatal accident?

Puerto Rico has the same problem as Greece.

They dont make anything. They are living off debt.

Eventually money comes from producing something.

This isnt to say the federal government shouldnt them prioritize now.

However states cant operate like that. Their unemployment rate is 12%.

It has to be addressed realistically like you cant have your used to if you can't pay for it.

Not ground troops, but military personnel, many of them sailors and airmen in the USS Carl Vinsion battlegroup. Actual land forces (in the form of elements of the 82nd Airborne and a Marine expeditionary unit) were much less.

And there were complaints about the response in Haiti as well, and suggested that a supercarrier was not very useful for a humanitarian disaster of the scale of Haiti's earthquake:

So in the least shocking news ever.... Trump goes on Twitter attack on the Mayor of San Juan. Questioning "leadership skills", and seems to making a case that they are acting a bit spoiled and should be helping each other as a "community" more. Yeah I could totally see him saying that to Gregg Abbott.

You seriously can't be more of an *******.

FIFY. He has little problem being President of Those That Agree With Him. Those are the only people he gives even a little s*** about. Even then, if they're not constantly praising dear leader AND wealthy, he really doesn't want anything to do with them.

I still don't see how an island in the Caribbean that is a US territory could be so unprepared for a strong hurricane. You'd think that ensuring their infrastructure could survive a hit from a strong hurricane would be one of their top priorities given that it's one of the only natural disasters they'd have to prepare for, but I guess not.

"A" strong hurricane? They had two strong hurricanes literally back to back. The first one weakened the infrastructure, then the second one finished the job.

Don't let actual events get in the way or your hot takes though.

So let's slightly rephrase it, I still don't see how an island in the Caribbean that is a US territory could be so unprepared for strong hurricanes. You'd think that ensuring their infrastructure could survive hits from strong hurricanes would be one of their top priorities given that it's one of the only natural disasters they'd have to prepare for, but I guess not.

    Still valid.
