Long time rockets fan here planning my first visit to actually see the rockets play in Houston.

I have planned to visit from dec 14-17 and see the game on the 15th vs San Antonio and the game on the 16th against milwaukee.

-Any general tips would be much appreciated
-Must do things aside from watching the rockets
    -best area to stay
-best way to look for tickets

Make sure to cruise down bissonet late at night. It's a Houston tradition.

Stay inside the loop, or close there-in. Do you like museums?

If you want a day trip to NASA, let me know, buddy of mine works there, he can expedite things.

The art museums are great, if you're into that. The Menil Collection is free... it has some pretty amazing stuff. There's at least a couple Picasso pieces hanging in there and their Rene Magritte section is awesome. On the same block is the Rothko Chapel... get into a good mental space (um, however you might like to do that... hehe...) and sit by the reflecting pond before making your way inside. Some hate it, but I love the Rothko Chapel... just a great place to clear your head, especially if you're into meditation.

Only about 2 miles away is the "proper" museum district... there you'll fine the Museum of Fine Arts Houston (excellent! Amazing impressionist collection) and The Houston Museum of Natural Science (mummies, dinosaur bones, educational IMax movies). There are about 15 other museums in that area and all the one's I've been to are excellent (houmuse.org).

THE FOOD: Gulf seafood, barbecue, Vietnamese, real kolaches (NOT pigs in a blanket), burgers... The Houston Press "Best of Houston" is a pretty good place to look for that stuff. (http://www.houstonpress.com/best-of)

As for hotels/accommodations... stay downtown or in the Galleria area.

The attractions are mostly going to eat, no lie.

Go to a nice steakhouse, Pappas Bros is excellent.
Go get some Tex-Mex, I personally like the original Lupe Tortilla in the Energy Corridor. The queso at Escalante's in City Centre is good. A lot of people like the fajitas at El Tiempo, the one on Washington is the better one IMHO.
Get a burger or some taquitos at Whataburger.

They do have that indoor sky diving thing called I Fly or something, never done it but heard it is fun. They have that Top Golf place that is good for getting a drink and swatting some golf balls. The Museums downtown are excellent as well.
