That's unfair, Kap has a MUCH bigger arm than Watson, I think the appropriate comparison is Alex Smith which isn't the worst thing in the world but it's not going to make those who want him to be the next big thing happy.

That game was a first round KO to Savage's chances of starting.

Watson processes the game quicker, is already making better presnap reads, and can actually survive behind this pathetic o-line.

Drops his eyes after first read/feeling pressure, tucks and runs.

We drafted a really, really nice Johnny Manziel.

Joe Montana didn't have a rocket arm, but he was smart, determined, and tricky. DW has a long way to go to be JM, but he has some of those attributes.

Watson is more athletic, bigger, quicker, and has MUCH MUCH better work ethic and character.

Isn't that usually the majority of rookie QB's? It takes time to develop the patience to go through one's progressions while in the pocket.
Enjoy him now and let's get together to nitpick next season. Just enjoy whatever the Texans give us to enjoy w/r to DW right now.

That's not really fair, Manziel has a lot more arm talent than Watson and Watson doesn't have the character issues that Manziel has. So really they don't have that much in common at all.

I don't know about the Manziel comparison, but yes on the first sentence.

What the heck have they been teaching him this whole time?

That he has no O line and if the O line could block better than traffic cones, he wouldn't be playing at all. I mean, he was a 1 read guy to begin with and now if he even tried to do the right thing and go through progressions, he'd be sacked so they are locking in those bad habits.

I don't blame him. Any qb would be nervous standing in the pocket with that garbage oline.

It's still better that he keeps his eyes downfield so he can get rid of it

Not really in his case, he's better off just being a RB than trying to make a decision on the move that leads to an interception.

That works well on a team with only one receiver. No need for more reads anyway.

So many QBs enter the league as unfinished products though, it's not fair to judge them based on who they are as rookies. Cam Newton his first year inthe league was even more dependent on his legs than Watson. Russell Wilson and Dak Prescott probably would never have developed into the QB's they are today without dominant OL's. After having that rookie year of protection though they got off to a running start and now have the confidence where they would survive even if their lines and receivers were crap.

You're probably right that Manziel and Watson are similar type players based on their college resumes. The difference as others have pointed out are work ethic and ability to keep a clean nose. Literally. Basically, if Watson can stay healthy and undistracted he's got the tools and potential to develop into a top 10 QB. The cautionary tale here is RG3, who had similar skills but never learned how to slide early on his runs the way Russell Wilson did. Let's hope Watson isn't damaged too much by this awful, awful line.

I'm not sure his ceiling is that high given his lack of arm talent, but I certainly think that his ceiling can be better than average, which would be a breath of fresh air. All he needs to be is Alex Smith and I think that's very possible....now you can say the Texans paid A LOT for just an Alex Smith clone, but it's much better than having nothing at all.
