The Pentagon must be saying to themselves... we're trying our hardest to avoid an attack on North Korea and now he is talking about Venezuela? Pentagon: We've received no new orders on Venezuela after Trump remarks http://thehill.com/policy/internati...o-new-orders-on-venezuela-after-trump-remarks
To answer your thread question, the answer is no. He didn't say he wanted to invade them. I'm also quiet sure 'invasion' is the last thing on the list of military possibilities that would be considered.
Whew, with Trump wanting to send mercenaries to Afghanistan, nukes to North Korea, I was hoping Trump wasn't getting ready for more military action in Venezuela.
Correct. He's thinking about his poll numbers only and not the fact that he's given Maduro propaganda on a silver platter to say "look... the US is about to attack us... rally around me and save your families". Trump just strengthen Maduro's foothold on the country by threatening to invade Venezuela and scaring the crap out of their citizens who are already in crisis. This is the President you guys voted for Republicans. Hope you all are proud.
It will be a storm of arrows the likes of which the world has never seen before. And mr. maduro, how did you change the constitution? Asking for my friend Ji..lio
To me ... The funniest thing is that a military option should be on the table . If we can find a way to work with other countries and the people of Venezuela , I think thats not a scenario we should rule out. The Venezuelan government is going great harm to its people . We can try to impose all of the sanctions we want , but for all intents and purposes that government is dictatorial right now .
Even the republican Congress caught on... "who Trump lashes out at today". GOP senator: Congress 'obviously' not authorizing war in Venezuela http://thehill.com/homenews/senate/...la-remarks-congress-obviously-not-authorizing
A military intervention in Venezuela might not be bad. I think if think democracy might work there if they didn't have a dictator. I don't think it would be an all out war either because I don't their congress likes their president.
Who knows how the Venezuelan people will react though. They might not like their current government, but they might dislike the idea of a foreign intervention even less. Seems like pretty much before every war, the military tries to paint this rosy picture in which the US army are welcomed as liberators, but it seems like that's usually not the case. Also I would imagine it'll be pretty easy for the Maduro government to whip up anti-American sentiment if military intervention becomes more likely; we do have a pretty bad track record of meddling in Latin America by overthrowing governments to install more US friendly dictators or propping up unpopular dictators.
Afghanistan never had a functioning government. Iraq had fractured groups with Kurds, Shias , and Sunnis. At this point I don't even think Chavez supporters support Maduro. Their economy is collapsed. People don't have food. He is trying to rewrite the constitution. If the US government even sends in troops I think he will have no support. Just let their congress go back to running their country and run a real election. The infrastructure is there to having a real country.
The fool probably sees Venezuela as easier pickings than North Korea in his quest to be seen as a "tough guy." Bullies beset with insecurities continually look for self validation.
