Rockets probably have to give up one or two 2nd round picks as well on that one. Nets really need all the draft picks they can get anyways.
They took a 1st (which will end up being a 20 pick) and a 2nd for a player expiring in two years. I have a hard time believing they would be ok in getting a 1st (which will end up being a 28 pick) for a player expiring in three years.
They aren't going to be serious competitors next year as well. So by the time they finally have draft pics, Leonard will be expiring and should be easy to move at that point. It's worth the risk for them. Plus Meyers is a young guy in a system that will encourage him to shoot a lot of threes. He may be able to revitalize his career over there while the Nets rebuild.
At the end of the day & based on discussions that have been reported, I believe it will be a four team trade (HOU + NYK + PHO + POR) that brings Melo (finally!) to Htown HOU: Melo (NYK) 3rd star NY: Brandon Knight (PHO) + M. Harkless (POR) + E. Millsap (PHO) + T. Quarterman (HOU) + 2020 1st from HOU (top 10) protected + future 2nd from HOU Knicks get veteran PG + NYC native Harkless to "replace Melo" + future 1st & future 2nd from Htown PHO: Evan Turner (POR) + Meyers Leonard (POR) + Shawn Long (HOU) + 2018 1st from POR (top 5 protected) + future 2nd from POR dumps Knight while picking up a 1st & 2nd for agreeing to take on Turner & Leonard (Suns will have several picks and can "pay" someone to take one of those "bad" contracts off their hands --> ->send Miami 1st + Turner to BRK) POR: Ryan Anderson (HOU) + F Derrick Jones, Jr. (PHO) Portland avoids tax penalty and picks up legit stretch 4 . Rockets send Onuaku to Brooklyn for PG Spencer Dinwiddie. Dinwiddie is a P-N-R PG who can give CP3 a break. He can hit the 3 and he can defend 3 positions since he is 6' 6". CP3 -- Dinwiddie -- Taylor Harden -- EGo -- Troy Williams Ariza -- Tucker -- Uthoff Melo -- Long-- Qi Capela -- Nene -- Black Ok... let it be
Meyers is terrible, no team is going to build with him or wasting time trying to develop him, he's who he is at this point, which is dead salary basically. There's a reason if nobody wants him. Also, if they were not ok in getting just a decent 1st for a two year bad contract, why would they be ok in getting one bad 1st for a three year bad contract? Doesn't make sense especially since we're forced to deal, they are not. Look, i would love if they would be willing to take little value back to absorb Leonard, i just don't think they're as dumb as some of you guys here think.
Has this been posted at all? http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/b...e=twitter.com&utm_campaign=NYDNSports+Twitter Knicks want to pause four-team trade after leading Carmelo Anthony to believe he's leaving Carmelo Anthony has been under the impression he would be heading to Houston. (MATT SLOCUM/AP) FRANK ISOLA NEW YORK DAILY NEWS Updated: Friday, July 14, 2017, 11:48 AM Carmelo Anthony doesn't know if he's going or staying mostly because the Knicks continue to send mixed messages and change directions almost daily. It appears that Anthony remains committed to finalizing a trade to the Houston Rockets despite the Knicks' sudden hesitation to complete the deal in the wake of the proposed hiring of new general manager Scott Perry. According to an executive of one the four teams involved in the proposed trade, all sides, including Anthony, are frustrated over reports that Knicks president Steve Mills is having second thoughts. In fact, ESPN reported that the Knicks want the chance to talk to Anthony about possibly remaining in New York, which at this stage in the process seems highly unlikely. "That's crazy," a source told the News. "From what I understand Carmelo is under the belief that he's going to the Rockets. That's what the Knicks have been telling us; that they're trading him. I can't imagine that after all he went though last season with Phil (Jackson) he's happy with this." It is interesting that Jackson, the former Knicks president, spent most of last season trying to run Anthony out of New York. Anthony would not budge until last month, but now that he's has agreed to leave the Knicks have cold feet. This latest development could be seen as Mills just wanting to give Perry a chance to settle into his new job before pulling the trigger. Mills has already signed Tim Hardaway Jr. and Ron Baker to free agent contracts without having a general manager in place. That has raised questions over how much actual power a new general manager would have under Mills. By delaying the deal, it creates the perception that Perry was consulted. If the Knicks are doing this to gain additional leverage the move could backfire. Anthony agreed to waive his no-trade clause to go to Houston and has been preparing himself for that move for nearly two weeks. Steve Mills (HOWARD SIMMONS/NEW YORK DAILY NEWS) Anthony's long time friend, Chris Paul, was scheduled to hold his introductory press conference in Houston on Friday. Last month, James Harden actively recruited Anthony to the Rockets during a trip to Paris. Anthony is concerned about his public image and doesn't want a messy divorce from the Knicks. He is said to be dismayed over the events of the past 24 hours. According to a source, Anthony went to the Knicks prior to the NBA Draft and requested a buyout. He was denied, but Jackson said the Knicks would work with Anthony on a trade. Anthony then agreed to waive his no-trade clause to Houston and Cleveland. Even after Jackson was fired, the Knicks, with Mills now in charge, intensified efforts to get a deal done. The parameters of a deal are in place but there are some details that need to be finalized. Neither Anthony nor his agent, Leon Rose, were available for comment. Rose also represents Paul and is in Houston for the press conference. Two people familiar with the talks believe a trade will be completed.
Heard NY is in talk with PHY about B.Knight. It makes sense PHY as 4th team in reported HOU-NYK-POR rumor, which deal Knight to NY and takes Meyers Leonard 's contract, may along with one expiring contract from POR (Napier/Vonleh/Davis) to help them reduce luxury tax cost. Maybe some second rounder picks head to PHY too.
He's posted about it before. It's a play and he'll for sure post all the details when they're available. IIRC the expected timeline for the debut was March or April 2018.
