Curry was paid $11 million/year for the past 4 years, including 2 MVP years. He probably feels that he has given them more than enough of a discount. And if you look at all 9 years, then you have ($44m + $201m)/9 = $27.22 million which by today's standards is still quite a bargain. I think his previous super bargain contract is the main reason they didn't try to ask him to sacrifice.
How is it any different than what Wade did for the Lebron/Wade/Bosh Miami Heat superteam? According to this article: www.businessinsider.com/dwyane-wade-miami-heat-sacrifice-2016-7 Wade sacrificed $17 million to maintain that superteam.
Agreed lol why would he continue to be paid less than the max when he's been getting paid like a role player. Comical that people talking about KD but still wanting the so called banana boat to come to Houston.
Why is anyone surprised? I told you guys in the other Durant thread that the money made back from being in the Bay Area was going to allow him to take a discount. Silicon Valley, bruhs.
A lot of people are overstating his sacrifice. He's signing a a 160/4 next season. Now if he signed that contract for less, then that's definitely going to flip the NBA upside down.
One of the reports stated he'd take another discount next season too. But at this point, who knows, we're still a year away.
I bet it comes with all expenses payed or something like that on he's contract. Idk if that's legal but damn that's a lot of money to leave on the table
Tim Cook can sneeze more money on KD than the $50MM he left on the table. The league should investigate the side deals being set up for KD.
Spoiler "After careful consideration, I will be playing for free the next five years. It's all about the rings & I want to give the Warriors as much room to work with to bring in other superstar players. DeMarcus Cousins, Chris Paul, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Russell Westbrook - a few possible free agents next year - I want Bob Myers to be able to bring them in. P.S.: If we were so fortunate to pull this off, this is not a super team. This is just a group of good guys that want to win, play hard & play well together."
NBA and NBA PA need to investigate this. Warriors giving him a side deal to get a piece of ownership when he retires. Call the FBI, CIA, Justice League, the Avengers. Something don't smell right. Ain't no man, AIN"T NO MAN BE TALKING NO LESS THAN WHAT HE BE WORTH YOU HEAR ME- in my STEPHEN A SMITH VOICE
I heard Lacob invested in a Joint Venture tech Start up fund founded by KD, Iggy, and Curry. They have a conference in August. SHADY SHADY SHADY way to circuvment the salary cap. " CLEVELAND — Not that this is breaking news, since Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant and Andre Iguodala have hinted, indicated and basically flat-out said that they plan to re-sign with the Warriors this summer… But the time is getting closer, the Warriors are on the verge of a 16-0 sweep of the postseason and their second title in three years, and Iguodala made his most pointed hint yet on Thursday when somebody suggested he won’t be seeing the media for a while once the Finals are over. “I’ve got to talk to you all in like three or four weeks,” Iguodala said. “Three weeks, four weeks. I’ve got to talk to you all again right around July. First week of July.” So Iguodala will be speaking to the media the first week of July. Anybody else, Andre? “There’s going to be some people there, though,” Iguodala said. ” K.D., Steph, guys are going to be talking again.”
He's not sacrificing anything. He's able to be involved in investments that will more than make up for it. Get used to it. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/02/18/style/kevin-durant-silicon-valley-golden-state-warriors.html
VC MONEY FUNED BY LACOB!!!!! Curry, Iggy, and KD getting Startup money from WARRIORS OWNER, LACOB After winning their second NBA championship in three seasons, Stephen Curry and Andre Iguodala are launching a tech summit. And Kevin Durant, the MVP of this year’s NBA Finals, is settling into the Bay Area nicely as well as headlining an upcoming tech event. The Golden State Warriors, who have seen Silicon Valley influence everything from their ownership, to the way they train, to courtside seating areas dotted with tech executives, are making a show of how dominant they can be as influencers off the court as well. Iguodala and Curry launched The Players Technology Summit, presented by Bloomberg, an Aug. 14-16 forum in San Francisco that will include panels and networking focused on allowing athletes to have a meeting of the minds with CEOs, venture capitalists and industry leaders. “Playing in Silicon Valley’s backyard has exposed me to information and resources that I’m excited to share through the Summit,” Curry said in a statement. “Whether you’re thinking about your first move into entrepreneurship or investing, or perhaps already a veteran in the space, it’s about surrounding yourself with the right team and putting in the work to always be improving as a professional.” Iguodala has used his time with the Warriors to collect an NBA Finals MVP award along with connections that have enabled him to confidently invest in a number of companies. “I’ve been fortunate to learn from some of the best in the tech and venture capital business and have put those learnings to work,” Iguodala said in a statement. “The Players Technology Summit is about sharing those learnings and relationships and building a lasting impact.” Get The Latest NBA Tech News In Your Inbox! Iguodala, who also led the inaugural NBPA Technology Summit last July in San Francisco, will have made a free agent decision by the time the latest summit takes place. His current proximity to Silicon Valley is a possible factor as it was when he originally decided to join the Warriors to become engaged in the tech community. For Durant, a tech investor himself, he’ll go on stage with his agent/partner, Rich Kleiman, to talk at TechCrunch Disrupt SF in September. Curry and Iguodala in previous years have spoken at Disrupt SF as well.
Or he realizes he has all the money he needs, and he loves his situation and doesn't care so much about maximum money and would rather keep his people together. It always amuses when people think they know what's best for someone else's life. He seems to be managing OK with his decisions thus far.
The other thing to note is that he could literally make up his "sacrifice" in like 2 hours shooting some commercials during the 2017-18 season. Not to mention the huge opportunities in hi-tech, venture capital investing due to location and connections in the Bay Area.
