I wanted Harden to be the MVP that year as well but if you take an unbiased look at that season and look at stats as a PER 100 as well as advanced stats, along with the normal stats, Curry dominated Harden in almost every category. He won 17 out 26 categories to be exact. Not only beating him but leading the league in some. It wasn't until I looked at it that I couldn't be mad that he won honestly even though every ounce of me says Harden deserved it based on what he did for our team and took them to the #2 seed.

I actually was working on a spreadsheet to compare that year vs this year on Westbrook and it opened my eyes to how much more efficient and solid Curry was and coupling that with the number 1 seed is why he won so easily.

This year it's almost a dead heat in terms of stats and comparison to Westbrook so there is more of a case now.

Just wanted to throw that out.

Then you obviously can't be using this data in an argument about the strength of their supporting cast. So to what end are you using this data?

Their total # of W's are the same when both played albeit Kawhi winning % is better.

How all 30 teams performed against their preseason Las Vegas win totals

    Houston Rockets: Over/under: 44.5 | Record: 55-27 (over by 10.5 games)

No team exceeded expectations more than the Rockets, led by MVP candidate James Harden running Mike D'Antonio's offense and a supporting cast that has proved greater than the sum of its parts. They didn't win their division (due to the unfortunate alignment of being in the same division as the Spurs), but they not only had the third-best record in the Western Conference but in all of the NBA. They also went over their projected season win total by a league-best 10.5 games.

    Miami Heat: Over/under: 34.5 | Record: 41-41 (over by 6.5 games)
    Milwaukee Bucks: Over/under: 36 | Record: 42-40 (over by 6 games)
    Washington Wizards: Over/under: 43 | Record: 49-33 (over by 6 games)
    San Antonio Spurs: Over/under: 56.5 | Record: 61-21 (over by 4.5 games)
    Philadelphia 76ers: Over/under: 24.5 | Record: 28-54 (over by 3.5 games)
    Utah Jazz: Over/under: 48 | Record: 51-31 (over by 3 games)
    Denver Nuggets: Over/under: 37.5 | Record: 40-42 (over by 2.5 games)
    Oklahoma City Thunder: Over/under: 45.5 | Record: 47-35 (over by 1.5 games)

After the departure of Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook dominated in every which way with his record 42 triple-doubles during the regular season. In the process, he also lifted the Thunder over their projected win total of 45.5 with the clinching victory coming Sunday in a 106-105 win at Denver.

Boston Celtics: Over/under season win total: 52 | Record: 53-29 (over by 1 game)
    Toronto Raptors: Over/under: 50.5 | Record: 51-31 (over by 0.5 games)
    Chicago Bulls: Over/under: 40.5 | Record: 41-41 (over by 0.5 games)
    Memphis Grizzlies: Over/under: 42.5 | Record: 43-39 (over by 0.5 games)
    Atlanta Hawks: Over/under: 43.5 | Record: 43-29 (under by 0.5 games)
    Golden State Warriors: Over/under: 66.5 | Record: 67-15 (over by 0.5 games)
    Los Angeles Lakers: Over/under: 26 | Record: 26-56 (push)
    Sacramento Kings: Over/under: 33 | Record: 32-50 (under by 1 game)
    New Orleans Pelicans: Over/under: 35.5 | Record: 34-48 (under by 1.5 games)
    Brooklyn Nets: Over/under: 22.5 | Record: 20-62 (under by 2.5 games)
    Los Angeles Clippers: Over/under: 53.5 | Record: 51-31 (under by 2.5 games)
    Indiana Pacers: Over/under: 45.5 | Record: 42-40 (under by 3.5 games)
    Portland Trail Blazers: Over/under: 45.5 | Record: 41-41 (under by 4.5 games)
    Charlotte Hornets: Over/under: 41.5 | Record: 36-46 (under by 5.5 games)
    Cleveland Cavaliers: Over/under: 57 | Record: 51-31 (under by 6 games)
    Dallas Mavericks: Over/under: 39 | Record: 33-49 (under by 6 games)
    Phoenix Suns: Over/under: 30 | Record: 24-58 (under by 6 games)
    Detroit Pistons: Over/under: 44.5 | Record: 37-45 (under by 7.5 games)
    Orlando Magic: Over/under: 36.5 | Record: 29-53 (under by 7.5 games)
    New York Knicks: Over/under: 40.5 | Record: 31-51 (under by 9.5 games)
    Minnesota Timberwolves: Over/under: 42 | Record: 31-51 (under by 11 games)

Next year, harden should have his bigs gift him a couple boards a game and also average a triple double. I'd like to see how they change the narrative then. Would be awesome if Harden did it and was like "it's not that hard guys"

Triple-double will be old news next year. It will be all about winning!

You play to win the game! except this year.

The thing is...Westbrook's going to keep averaging a triple double, or at least very close to it. What happens next year if the Thunder once again finish with ~45 wins? Is he the MVP again? Is that the new template?

History has time and time again rewarded winning.

I really don't think the voters are swaded as much by the triple doubles as much as we think.

Westbrook's only real advantage is stylistic/aesthetic preference.

Harden is more efficient while putting up similar historic stats and contributes to winning more on a team that is elite.

My market campaign would be to place the evidence without the name and ask who is the winner.

    Player A. Vs. Player B
    29/8/11 31/10/10
    1st in assist. 1st scoring
    2nd scoring. 3rd assists
    63true%. 54true%
    55-27, 3rd. 47-35, 10th in the league
+14 games. +2 games above projected
    81 games 81 games played

    Etc etc

If you take the narrarive out of it, its impossible to choose Weatbrook over Harden.

You can argue Leonard over Harden based on what you emphasize but not WB over JH.

Someone needs to make a comparison graph and make it go viral.

I agree with you but you're also dead wrong. The media has decided and it's triple double.

I, for one, am excited to see the spineless, brainless, gutless media start spewing "WINNING MATTERS!" out of their noiseholes next year, after they've effectively ****ed James Harden 3 years in a row. EXCITED I TELL YOU!

The chump ass voters are giving MDA coach of the year to make up for not giving Harden MVP. I feel sick.

Have you not been following the vote tally thread Westbrook has 28 1st place votes to Harden's 10 (out of 41 ballots handed in)...they have been clearly swayed

I argued with someone I knew about Westbrook vs. Harden for mvp on Facebook. He was an OKC fan. After he said that Westbrook can't control the fact that Adams, Kanter, and Sabonis don't contest 3s, I felt so much joy kindly showing him the numbers that it is actually Westbrook who doesn't contest 3s, and should shoulder a significant amount of the blame.

I was defriended a week later. Yay?

If you're gonna screw Harden, please make that clear before the series. We could use the bulletin board material.

Hed rather delete his friendship with you instead of just saying good point and offering counterpoints? Really lame friend. Its not like you were going at him about politics and religion.

My friends dad lives in okc and we argue westbrook/harden on facebook all the time and we r cool as chit. If I went to a game in okc id drink a beer with him as we talked ****

Ill bet your ex friend prolly doesnt even have any ties to the city of OKC huh? Probably just bandwagon
