We signed him to a partially guaranteed 3-yr deal way back in June, with Wilter and Payton. I guess we cut that in training camp and just did it again to retain rights
Probably a small contract that can be waived easily like Bobby Brown's. Might as well say we still have 3 open spots.
I loved watching this kid in college and was excited when the Rockets added him after the draft because of his ability to penetrate and create for others. But I was so underwhelmed by him in the Summer League and preseason. Looking over his D-League numbers, though, it looks like he's played really well. He's averaging 21/6/3 on 49.7/41.3/79.5 shooting percentages. The scoring efficiency really shocks me, as he was kind of a volume scorer in college and an insanely streaky shooter beyond the arc. But I'm glad to see he's coming around, and I love his long-term potential.
Here is bbs thread from June when agreed to sign. Signing actually came in Sept with Wilter and Payton too. I'm sure lot of stats and vids here (Vertical) Isaiah Taylor has agreed to a partially guaranteed deal with the Houston Rockets Anyone else find it funny that thread didn't get bumped, but the eyeball injury thread did. Haha
Gary Payton is WAY better than Isaiah Taylor! Taylor is trash, as evidenced by the preseason and summer league.
I thought this might happen. Damn, I should have predicted it! His numbers look solid in D league. Isaiah missed a bunch of games this year and I couldn't figure out is he was hurt or we were hiding him. He's a former UT player. Probably should have stayed longer at UT, there were concerns he wasn't ready for the pros. I can say he can get to the bucket and has speed. His 3pt shot was just so-so in college. UT was pretty good with him as their PG and they've fallen off a ton with him gone (they have a new coach and do not have a real PG now).
Didn't we have an Isaiah Taylor a few years back? Wasted roster spot...veteran Scola is **** on on this board, but maybe you re-think this now that we signed a young guy who is not worth anything.
Yes it does, but I wouldn't be shocked if Brown is waived again since Brown likely won't even be invited to training camp next year, and wont receive PT unless we sustain major injuries in the next few weeks. Brown isn't the upside young prospect that Morey typically has at the end of his bench at this point in the season. Now Thomas is there to fill that need too, and is a prospect they obviously want to take a look at over the Summer. So I view it as 2 more likely open roster spots for veterans, but technically only 1. Won't stop them from adding 2 veterans if they can get anyone decent.
