Thinking about getting an Air Fryer. Anyone have any recommendations or experience with any? I have several friends that love theirs but figured I would ask the CF.net experts.

Wish I could help, but my preference for o2 is boiled. Better health benefits.

Ironically, their is one listed on Woot.com at this moment.

No experience. What is the upside versus a traditional fry? Is the texture the same?

Kind of what I am trying to find out too. Doesn't use oil so supposedly it is healthier. From the people I have talked to the food taste similar to frying without being greasy. It is supposed to be crispy, moreso that cooking them in an oven.

They actually do use oil, but just a lot less than deep frying. It still crisps up nicely but doesn't have that deep fried taste. You definitely won't get that but like you said, you get that crunch factor that can fulfill the cravings for fried food.

If you don't have any grease how are you supposed to make gravy?

Small world. I just bought an Air Fryer. It's from Walmart though, so that might be the problem.

It's basically a toaster with air blowing the heat.

    1) It takes too long to cook something. Twenty minutes to cook 3 chicken wings. Maybe I was expecting better.
    2) It dries your food. Breaded food and foods that don't have their own plentiful natural juices will be dried out.
    3) It mostly only cooks one side. The heat comes from the bottom in mine, and that's what mostly gets cooked, the bottom.

I haven't tried cooking french fries, but I imagine they will be dry. I've only cooked chicken wings, heated some frozen jalapeƱo poppers and toasted some bread. The taste is worse than oven, but not bad.

Maybe mines is the cheap version.... only $100 (clearance sale) and the brand name is Air Fryer, LOL. I kept my receipt and will be returning it today.

The best thing health-wise might be cooking in the oven with your food on a rack. Grease will drip/settle underneath and save you some calories. You can always take a paper towel/napkin and press it into foods and extract some grease.

Looking around at reviews, the ones by Philips are at the top of just about every list. Whether they're worth $300 is another story.

Set up a deal alert on Slickdeals. Have seen a couple of these pop up lately for cheap.

I'll stick with my deep fryer for now but would certainly be open to an air fryer if it proved to be a legit alternative for certain things (fried pickles, for example).

Fried pickles are on the top of my list of things I will use my fryer for. I could eat those everyday.

I use one. It's good for like a pizza, or a hot pocket or let go my Eggo's.

How can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat?

"You! Yes, you behind the bike shed, stand still laddy!"

    Blood pudding, though?

I'm thinking about building something like this out in the bbq area, sounds much more fun than the indoor one I was talking about 9 months and 3 posts ago...

Interesting. I was thinking about putting one on my Bday wish list.

Looks like you can get a refurbished, basic b**** Philips on Amazon for $70.

I'll check back on this in March. I should have tried it by then.
