Watkins is a beat reporter. He's paid to report about the Rockets, not be a team mouthpiece or cheerleader. If there are things that irk him about the team, he has every right to express it. If I was in his position, I wouldn't want to feel restrained in expressing my opinions freely. If you want Rockets reporting from a fan's perspective, you have Clutch.
it's one thing to be a pathetic mouthpiece like feigen, but on the flipside twatkins' overwhelmingly negative and mocking tweets about the team are just as bad
I have perused his twitter from time to time. With respect to Rockets coverage, I find it to be "overwhelmingly" neutral, not negative. And personally, if I have to have one or the other, I'd rather have a reporter that's a bit of a cynic than a propagandist.
i double-checked his twitter going back 2 weeks right before replying to your post, and to me he has a clear bias against the rockets
Ethan strauss is the Warriors beat reporter and he virtually blows them on a nightly basis. He wrote that article bashing Harden for making All-NBA over Curry when the Warriors were mediocre years back. Watkins secretly despises Harden.
Durv, I usually respect your opinion on most things, but I strongly disagree here. It's one thing to be neutral, it's another for a beat writer assigned to a team to continuously make snide remarks against their best player or openly denigrate the team. He doesn't have to be their mouthpiece but it's super problematic if he's going to keep passive-aggressively dissing the team. He's basically the living embodiment of ESPN's bias against Houston.
From time to time he does go out of his way to troll fans who tweet at him, which is irregular for a guy on a local beat.
With perception seemingly being the biggest driving force behind MVP voting, Calvin Watkins is doing his level best to ensure that Westbrook gets the award. He knows what he's doing, and it sucks.
But does Calvin Watkins go to steakhouses to hang out with Rockets and bring back the good stories to share with everyone here on Clutchfans?!
Biggest win of the year for the Rockets. Harden was all determination ... And Calvin Watkins has a post on the FRONT PAGE of ESPN about Lebron not getting enough MVP talk.
I've been listening for the past hour and it's been a really good show. All Rockets talk I know there's been a lot of hate for Calvin on Clutchfans in the past (i.e.: Dallas fan boy, etc), but I actually like Calvin. He tells it like it is, which is how it should be
