Apparently, the Pelicans were interested in signing him to play with Anthony Davis, but Lin chose to go with a coach that he had a relationship with rather than one he didn't know. Given the challenges he's had with previous coaches (Woodson, McHale, Scott), I can't blame him for going with someone he knows he gets along with. That said, I still say that if you're going into your prime (28 years old) with the opportunity to be the focal point of a team on a rebuilding team, that is preferable to being a 6th man on a better team. He will have the opportunity to be a 6th man later if things don't work out for the Nets, but he likely wouldn't get that opportunity to start for another team if he took a multi-year contract as a 6th man now.
He also wanted to play for a coach he could trust. The relationship with Atkinson played a big role in him going to the Nets.
Yeah, Nets were probably the best team when it came to minutes/money/coaching. You would think he'd shoot more though. I was expecting Westbrook-esque 20+ shots per game.
The season is less than a week old. Team is still trying things out...he's playing more orchestrator at this point.
Looks like some folks have them higher now: http://www.netsdaily.com/2016/10/31/13481428/moving-on-up-nets-ranked-in-mid-20-s
Yes they are because they make the odds which millions of dollars transact in gambling. They are highly paid mathematicians and statisticians who use logic and data to make decisions. In other words, none of them are LOFs.
So Lin use to play for the Lakers, since he left and went to the Nets, the odds of the Lakers winning are significantly better. The odds of the Nets winning the title are the worst in the league. Los Angeles Lakers 750/1 Brooklyn Nets 1500/1 I want EVERY LOF here to clean out their checking account and their parent's trust fund and put your money on Lin if you think he is Win. Lin don't Win. Fin.
I'm down on Lin as the next guy but that's an argument that gives LOFs the fuel they need to demonstrate how people are "bias" against him. Lin got onto the Lakers during a tanking season. Julius Randle got injured, and they tanked and proceeded to use the #2 pick to get D'Angelo Russell. They proceeded to use the next year as Kobe's farewell tour and got an overall #2 pick, to get Brandon Ingram. They also picked up a nice acquisition at #27 and got Larry Nance Jr. They got a new coach in Luke Walton that led the Warriors to a historic winning-spree when their head coach was out with back problems. Young amazing talent + competent young coach = HIGHER CHANCE OF WINNING than the New Jersey Nets who Billy King experimented with as his sex doll. Tinman, I respect your passion and vitriol to support the Houston Rockets, but Lin leaving the Lakers is not the sole reason why they're suddenly better. Also, he went to the Charlotte Hornets after that remember? They made a playoff appearance and they surprised the league with a higher win total than all the experts had them pegged for. So yes, the Nets are god awful. Your use of Vegas spreads merely spells the obvious that nobody can name another player on that team besides Brook Lopez. To say Lin is a direct cause for that drop? Come on man.
