I'm fairly certain of that too. I remember Clutch's frustration on how the public was led to believe one set of facts on that issue when all of a sudden, near draft day, a new set of facts emerges within the organization. That may be why you feel like we could have given Memphis the pick, Gater.
Also, for the record, Height does not equal defense. Anticipation, desire and being fundamentally sound with your footwork are a lot more important than height.
Don't look for Boki to start anytime soon. Maybe not at all this year. I'd love to pull for the guy, but you 've gotta get REAL. I remember hearing JVG on 610 shortly after he was hired — running down the list of strenfths and weakenesses of different guys, etc . . . His comments on Boki stood out. First off, he sounded significantly unimpressed, said the guy was simply not strong enough to hold up at the 3 right now . . . left some "wait and see" for improvement hanging out there, but no much else on the positive. I don't think Boki's development is a priority for JVG this year. Too bad. BTW, where is Dan Langhi playing now?
Boki has shown nothing so far. No way he starts just cause he's... tall. Hell, height doesn't matter if you don't have the skills. Hopefully Boki may develop into a good player, but JJ and Pike and possibly Griffin will definitely get the nod over Boki. Boki will probably get some minutes, just to see how he's doing, but don't expect him to break out this season, and don't keep your hopes up that he'll be a Rocket next season. Actually we have quite a bit of versatility at the 2 and 3, I like it.
Maryland Terps: How is there no depth chart? Just because JJ may not be a TRUE SF does not mean he can not play or start there. Pike may not be a TRUE SF either, but he is a tweener. AG may have started at SF for the MAVS. So what if he was surrounded by 3 good players. The rockets have Wink, Cat, and Yao, so AG faces a similar situation here. My point is YES BOKI Will have to step it up, but historically speaking he hasn't, and he has done nothing in summer league games or last season to prove he has the NBA ability to start for us or EARN PT. So that being, JJ will be the projected startef. Who cares if he may be too short for the avg height of a SF. He's the best talent wise for that position now, so he should play.
It's not the height that matters ,but it's a question of you used it.I've seen a lot of small forwards about 6'5" that really knows how to utilized it.
i dont know if i am just repeating stuff already in this thread, but didn't you guys see a pattern with the rockets biggest FA pickups? griffin, jackson, and pike all of them are 2/3's which is what boki really is. one is a defensive player, one is a sharp shooter, and the other is an all around role player type. all of those pickups would really seem to indicate that the rockets are very suspect of boki. you guys can say boki is a 3 all you like since he is 6'9 but he is really just a 2/3 when you look at his game. i am hoping he works out but all the signs are pointing to bust right now.
Actually, if he can beat out all the other guys and start in JVG's system, we will be in serious contention for a high playoff spot. For now, I think JJ looks to be the most likely starting SF. Griffin will do specialty duties (defense). Pike will have significant PT as the backup of both the 2 and the 3. Boki's PT will depend on how well he does.
Boki is looking pretty thick in the media day pics. Maybe he can get some PT at the 4, at least he has the quickness to guard 4's right? Ok maybe not.
