Yup..... I really hope this show overcomes criticism because it was different in my opinion.
It was just refreshing and thou it was not perfect it did do a lot of things well.

Since you placed your mythos in modern times with Harry Potter, I would go with AMC's Preacher, which just started airing. It's got supernatural elements like vampires and 'magic' powers.

But isn't American Gods just a single book? Are they they going to try and turn it into a longer running series? I guess with the set up from the book there's all kinds of other stories they could tell, but none of it would be coming from Neil Gaiman.

Although I didn't like Thomas Covenant as much as the Shannara Books it might actually make a much better tv show. I was really dissappointed that Shannara was such a low budget production.

I know magic kingdom for sale has been optioned as a movie with Steve Carell as the lead. It hasn't been green lit just yet though. That's another I think would translate well as a movie or series.

It's only one book so I doubt they will make multiple movies, but I'm pumped for Ready Player One.

Could you imagine after GOT series finale, they kick off a Mass Effect series?

Anansi Boys was supposed to be set in the same universe but isn't directly related to American Gods, so there is potential for a series.

There's gotta be a lot of licensing they need to do it right. But if they do some sort of marketing easter egg hunt like the book release, it would be the best thing ever.

I've got to throw in another vote for "Red Rising". I guess that's sci-fi and not fantasy but I bet it will be awesome.
