Yes Hank, last year Marwin hit .329 with an OBP of .404 and slugging of .468 hitting second for the ball club. In the last 14 games THIS year he is only hitting .308, but for whatever reason Hinch is NOT using him. Last time i checked our team is not hitting much. Well, i don't understand Hinch and his lineups anyway.
Not great! <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Last two weeks:<br>Valbuena: .612 OPS<br>Correa: .594 OPS<br>Castro: .508 OPS<br>White: .457 OPS<br>Gomez: .421 OPS</p>— Thickie Don (@AstrosCounty) <a href="https://twitter.com/AstrosCounty/status/725351579633618945">April 27, 2016</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

I think guys definitely look at their spots in the lineup a certain way and associate it with what they're expected to do. Had to do some googling, seems like Gomez enjoyed hitting leadoff for the Brewers but like others have said, Altuve has been perfect there. We gotta find a way to get this guy at least halfway back to what he was before he came here. It can't all be gone..
Yea it's worth a shot, but like I said if he gets on base and runs himself into an out, the average might look better but the reality won't be any better.
This is the thinking on many of us at this forum, with some exceptions, of course and we know who they are. This team is UNDERACHIEVING for a LOOOOONG TIME NOW. Now, who do we blame????? yes, we have many to blame, but Hinch is one. I would not blame Luthnow, why?? He traded for Kazmir (if it did not work, is not Luthnow's fault). He traded for Gomez ( i disagree on the trade) and Fiers did the job, but not Gomez who was suppose to be a much better player. Can Gomez be any good with a manager that is not going to STOP him? Why do we lose so many road series? Are we really prepared? We have NAMES but numbers are just not there. Why did we struggled so much with Neshek at end last year and did not develop VV or Feliz??? Why? This year, why give Giles so many chances when EVERYONE SEES HE IS STRUGGLING???? Why??? Instead of giving the ball to Harris who is really pitching, and Neshek who is healthy and doing the job, why????? Why it took so long to get 13 pitchers in roster when we had so many bad starters that are unable to go deep in ball games??? Why our starter are struggling so much? They look unprepared to start the season, and they are not THIS BAD. Yes, players are responsible but coaches and managers are EQUALLY responsible. A few of the members on this forum will take it on us, the ones that tells things as they are, but instead of wasting time and insulting us, why don't you guys express your disappointment with the team and not other forum members??? Now, my questions are, why not give Marwin more at bats? Why not use Harris as our set up man? Why not move Springer to the 5th spot so we can have a more balanced lineup? Why not move a rookie to the 7th spot and have less pressure? Why it took so long to give the ball to Devenski when our rotation has been second worse? Well, maybe worse now as Boston is doing better than us lately. Lets see what happens now, we need McHugh to pitch good as he is part of our future as the number 4 starter, hopefully.
Exactly What kills me is people blaming some kind of curse or "Houston Sports" for management stupidity The Astros have the tiniest payroll in their division and the next to tiniest in all of baseball and folks want to believe we should be in the World Series?????!!!!
And the fact that we were in the same boat as the Cubs. They made be necessary additions, and look at them now.
yes, and some morons will say, look at the Royals, well, lets look at the last 10 World series winners. Last 10 World Champs 1. KC 2. Giants 3. Boston 4. Giants 5. Cards 6. Giants 7. Yankees 8. Phillies 9. Boston 10. Cards KC is 14th in salaries, Giants 5th, Boston third, Cards 9th, Yankees second, when phillies made it to the WS they have big contracts with Hamels, Rollins, Howard, ect. Astros are 22 this year. So yes, we need to SPEND more money if we want to win.
I wouldn't mind: 1) Gomez 2) White 3) Correa 4) Altuve (protection behind Correa) 5) Springer 6) Rasmus 7/8) Marwin/Valbuena and Tucker/Gattis 9) Castro
Chicago is 7th in salaries, plus they have a great if not the best manager in Maddon, and a great GM. I believe we have a great manager but we don't have the salaries nor the manager the Cubs have. They spend money on Lester, Zobrist, Heyward, Lackey, that is almost 20 percent of new faces for a team that did BETTER than us last year on FA and spend money for it. Us???? Fister. Again, FA signings for the Astros? Fister. So, if a forum member out here says that money does not matter and lets do it the KC way? Lets tell him, no, lets do it the Cubbies way, and remind him that KC is 14 in salaries, 8 SPOTS OVER THE ASTROS.
you people that missed the pitcher batting, well we have the equivalent of three pitchers batting. just looking for positives, NL ball.
Gomez leading off is interesting but his last 2 plus years he is terrible on the bases with a low success on stealing. Also, his average very low and few walks. Yes, he was good leading off for the Brewers, but that was 2014 and earlier. In 2015 he hit 4th and 5th more times combine than leadoff. I think he would be an ok number 6 hitter if he gets his average up to .260 but right now, he is a number 8 hitter and i don't see much improvement. Right now he is really a waste of a spot as we are not going to re sign him, he is not the player of 2014, he is more the player of 2015, we are not going to get much if any in return for a trade. I would do Marwin second and Springer 5th, White 7th to take any pressure from him as a rookie.
LMAO at all you morons who thought the Astros were going to be good this year. Bunch of premature ejaculators.
I blame Daryl Morey. Last year's Astros were white hot in April and May. Who do we blame for this massive OVERACHIEVING? Carter, Lowrie and Marisnick. All of which are GONE. The Astros can NOT fire Daryl Morey quick enough.
The cheapness hurts us in other ways, b/c Crane is so cheap he doesn't want to sign expensive free agents, he's left with trading away the farm for guys like Gomez and Giles. While still too early to judge, that Giles trade may hurt us for years. VV would probably be our ace if he was still on the team right now.
