The idea that he has no value is just wrong. His contract is very trade-able. He will also fit with a team where the 1st/2nd unit needs more length and defense over offense. One of the reasons we notice his horrid shooting percentages is because outside of Harden no one is able to score. It's all about fit. Last year he had a better fit because everyone was shooting better. This year? Well we've seen why this team is 41-41. Some of you want to throw him out, say he's garbage and move on. I say that's really short sighted.
I stand by what I said if we're talking about last year's Corey Brewer. He had his ups and downs, but he hustled, was a great finisher in the open court, and had some key moments in the playoffs. This year's Corey Brewer is a scrub. I'm hesitant to say he was just trying harder in a contract year since he was a decent player the season before in Minnesota(that was the year he dropped 51 on us). I don't know what the hell happened.
Brewer should grow back some of the hair and do a hair style make over the way Howard did. Maybe this time, a younger Brewer shows up.
The entire team has fallen off a cliff. It all boils down to offense. Corey had lulls last season. These lulls were offset by other players having better shooting nights from other players. We have not seen any other player step up this season. Ariza has been decent, but even he isn't shooting the ball well. I don't know why that is, and my instinct is to blame coaching.
I agree about the rest of the team. I don't think anyone on this roster has matched last year's performance. Maybe Capela if you factor in his entire rookie season since he was godawful in the first few months of his career. But everyone else is having a worse year, some obviously more than others. But there's no denying the dropoff in Brewer's game. He was a freight train in the open court last season. And even though there have been fewer fast break opportunities due to the crappier defense, that doesn't explain how bad he's been this season at attacking the hoop. It's not just his inability to finish. It's that his basketball IQ has fallen off a cliff. He's routinely driven hard to the basket despite 3 defenders standing in his way which has resulted in countless offensive fouls. He's also taken to throwing up awful shots in the lane that never have a prayer of going in. I just hope a better coach can help Brewer regain his 2014-15 form next season. Cuz I have a bad feeling we're stuck with his contract for 2 more years.
In reading through this thread, one will notice that Clutchfans poster Haymitch never joined the circle-jerk in declaring this a great signing. All Hail Haymitch
Lots of people in this thread really liked getting Brewer, lots of crow to be eaten it seems. And, just like I said, like his hustle but he can't shoot, 10th man at best...for 8m a year....LORD!!! DD
man, this was like skynet. Whats even worse is how we let him go off for 50 against us. I was watching that game in disbelief. Daryl Morey has really ****ed the rockets basketball culture up. "Chuck 3 and **** playing D"
I think the "good" Corey Brewer is more likely to appear with the team getting stops and getting out on the fast break where he still shines.
He showed so much promise. The deal makes sense when you consider the value he brought off of the bench last year. This year? CB forgot how to just play. Plain and simple, he forgot how to go out there and play. You can see a hesitation in his game where it appears he thinks too much about everything. Even his shots seem to be anticipatory, without a natural rhythm. It's pretty sad to see such a decline over a season in CB, TerrenceJones and, to be fair, Dwight Howard. What a time to be al...err....what a time to survive.
Why Morey can't sign some tough player like Aminu??? Aminu with 30+10 in playoffs. Jesus. I guess he is the bottom line of Morey recruitment list.
I was advocating for Aminu in the off season to replace Ariza. He's not a great shooter but he's a defensive asset on the floor and hustles for every loose ball and can rebound at an elite level for a SF.
