Rays protested against us in that game Porter switched pitchers before Wright had thrown a pitch because of the pinch hitter. The Rays won that game, but the protest probably would have been upheld in that situation. Another memorable protest for me was the Braves a few years ago when the umpire called the infield fly rule, where the SS for the Cardinals backed into the OF, and then moved away from the ball because he thought the LF was calling him off and the ball landed between them. Protest wasn't upheld because it was an umpire's judgement.
Giles doesn't appear ready for the big time yet. Closed out a lot of games with a bad team in a lot of meaningless games last year.
1 batter. It'll be ok. If closing regular season games didn't count for the phillies, then pitching in spring training games also didn't count in terms of "big time pressure".
Yes. It wouldn't have been a judgement call if the ball had hit the runner, but in this instance they are asking the umpire to decide if Correa running on the grass caused the pitcher to throw the ball way over the first baseman's head and that's a judgement call 100%. IMO the ump got it right, the Yankees manager just wanted the ump to bail out the pitcher who made an unforced throwing error.
Damn it. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr"><a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Astros?src=hash">#Astros</a> Tyler White comes out of club house to golf cart after getting hit in the hand during last ab. <a href="https://t.co/jNZBsyNWai">pic.twitter.com/jNZBsyNWai</a></p>— Simone Eli (@SimoneEli_KPRC) <a href="https://twitter.com/SimoneEli_KPRC/status/717444182810497024">April 5, 2016</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Don't get me wrong, I'm really hoping Giles can put it together because he has the stuff the team needs in a closer. But closing for a bad team is different then closing for a good team I'm thinking. He has come back the last couple of batters to strike them out.
You have to be kidding me. Alright, tired of our players getting hit in the hand. Not to mention that pitch almost hit him in the face.
Horrible pitch to start the inning, but was really pleased with his location to the next three hitters.
