    We know Harden gets hated on hard by seemingly everyone for his defense and it became popular to post clips of his bad defensive play.

    When did this start?

    Was it with that viral video called "James Harden, Defensive Juggernaut"? Or was it before then?

    When the CF user created the video [2 years ago?] and it hasn't stopped since.
    Maybe it stopped/slowed down a little last year?

    I'd say it started with his NBA Finals performance, but it went to a whole new level with that video (which of course was created by a Clutchfans poster).

    Viral video.

    It familiarized a lot of NBA fans who don't follow Houston, and casual NBA fans who just watch highlights, with his lack of defense.

    Now, videos showing his defensive lapses are quite popular on ESPN. Therefore, they make it a point to show them even if he has a spectacular game otherwise.

    I looked at the video and it really highlights the worst parts, but there was improvement in the next season. Still, I think OKC knew his defensive shortcomings as well. He would have played the starting role in place of Sefolosha if he wasn't so bad on defense.

    The video absolutely started it.

    Basically the narrative with Harden from now on will be:

    "Harden did all these great things....YEAH BUT...he doesn't play defense"

    It is sloppy, but that rep won't be shaken. Even if he wins the championship I don't think it will be shaken. Haters gonna Hate.
