I was going to do that also, but then I read this article. http://homeguides.sfgate.com/should-fertilize-before-after-heavy-rain-104581.html
Lets compare the 19-4-10 SuperTurf to the 28-3-10 4.5% Fe with 50% slow release Lesco product. 19-4-10 SuperTurf comes in a 40 pound bag for what 35 dollars? Lesco comes in a 50 pound bag for about 25. Both have iron both have 50% slow release. NITRO-PHOS uses Methelyne Urea, Lesco uses PPSCU. Neither one has magical ingredients. One bag of Lesco applied at 0.75 pounds N per 1K sq ft covers 18.7K sq ft. Nitro-Phos covers 10K. Twice the coverage for 10 bucks less. Nothing about the SuperTurf product suggests it is worth over twice the price. Also in the middle of heavy growth if you switch to 100% PPSCU slow release 39-0-0 you get 26K sq ft coverage per 25 dollar bag. No salt accumulation, 100% perfect slow release for uniform growth and cheaper still. The highest NP makes is 50% slow release I can find.
Worst weekend to have worked so hard tilling, planting and fertilizing. It's supposed to rain buckets for days this week. I hope my little plats survive.
Instead of starting a new thread, I'll ask this in here. Hopefully some of you experts will help me. My yard has significant patches of no grass where it is just hard ground that turns to mud if it rains. This is along one side and around the back. In general I have a lot of places that turn super muddy. I also have a small "dent" in the ground in the back, about the size of 2 basketballs. It's only a few inches deep, but now I have a kiddo back there I want to fill it in. Should I just add a layer of top soil? Any thoughts on helping with the muddy spots?
Interesting, thanks. I was hoping someone would chime in if that approach was wrong. I didn't want to do it tonight anyway...
Just remember Shoots, Roots, and Leaves when looking at the fertilizer numbers. First number is Nitrogen for the plant "above ground" Second number is Phosphorus (phosphate) for the Root health Third number is Potash, for overall health (green leaves, pretty flowers)
any of you guys use this product? http://www.homedepot.com/p/LESCO-50-lb-Weed-and-Feed-Professional-Fertilizer-18-0-9-080257/100330755
