I love a healthy Donatas Motiejunas but you have to be realistic here. Obviously Morey doesn't want to pay him 15 million a year or whatever he'll command if not damaged goods.

That first rounder can be used in all sorts of ways, maybe even to grease a trade so that, say, the Hawks get compensation for Horford (who gets his fifth year), or some deal for Harrison Barnes because the Warriors might match our offer with the intent to trade him later (because their payroll is going BOOM; even Steph only makes $11,000,000-$12,000,000 a year, and you know THAT won't last).

Or we draft and keep. Or MCW. Or this. Or that. GM's LOOOOOOOOOVE first round draft picks and sometimes balk over someone's sloppy seconds ("he's already on his third year, I might have to pay him soon; you got a draft pick instead?")

The hate for Thornton continues to baffle me. He's been more of a + than Ty, Terry and Brewer for most of the season.

Wowsers, mixed emotions: I hated the deal, but if it's cancelled then I should have loved the deal. Right?

    What a ficackta season...

SVG got cold feet. Rather jeep his pick and sign Dmo or Ryan Anderson in the summer.

How are Morey's picks usually a miss??

Everyone loves to say Morey drafts poorly. Yes 2012 3 first round picks and all they got to show for it was T-Jones when in the 2nd round you had the likes of Draymond Green, Jae Crowder, Middleton, and Barton go however those guys went 17 picks after T-Jones so many teams passed on those guys as well.

In 2013 we took Isaiah Canaan. Tell me who is doing better than him right now in the NBA that was drafted after him that season.

In 2014 we took Capela at #25. Tell me who is doing better than him that was drafted after him. Pick #42 was Nick Johnson which was terrible but it was all trash after him with exception of one guy. Jordan Clarkson.

In 2015 there are only 2 guys who you could say should have picked at #18 thus far showing any upside (Nance Jr. and Portis) and neither are exactly guys you are begging to acquire. The rest of that draft after #18 Dekker is garbage thus far.

Bottomline is that it is basically a crap shoot outside of the top 10 if you hit as there will only be 1-2 guys each draft after 20 that turn into a Parsons, Draymond, Middleton, Isaiah Thomas type steal.

If the trade is voided by the Pistons that gives Morey tons of leverage in salary talks with Dmo. The Pistons will be basically saying, "We don't trust this guy's back long term".

The Pistons were the team most likely to offer Dmo big money over the summer but they won't touch him again if they void the trade.

The real question is: Would our grandmothers have been better than Ty, Terry and Brewer this season?

I agree with you, I honestly think Morey is just a good GM. His only (apparent) flaw is that he treats players like assets, and as long as you don't have an elite team, I feel like is necessary.

BUT, he whiffed bad on Marcus Morris instead of Kawhi Leonard... I wanted Leonard in that draft, and this team would be that much better with him..

It'd be a real shame if the deal falls through. This was a steal.

Early reports of this injury compared it to Dwights injury before he went to LA. That injury took over a year and a half to come back from. I believe DMo has the drive to come back from this injury but he still needs time. If Detroit voids the trade I see it as a win. The fact that the trade was voided due to health concerns effectively killed DMo's RFA value. I think he will be more affordable this summer. I understand its a big if, but if he returns healthy later this year or next year, I would take his value over a 9-15 pick.

If this deal is rescinded because of his back issues then DMOs career could potentially be in jeopardy. He'd almost be impossible to trade or rely on with a roster spot not knowing when his back will go out on him. For DMOs sake you hope this deal isn't rescinded and he gets the all clear sign from Detroits back specialist.

So many people thinking DMo is not healthy, and making massive leaps as to his condition.

I hope Detroit does the same so that we get him back - and he gets healthy.

I agree 2011 was a fail with Morris over Leonard, however the point of this thread is in wanting to keep D-Mo who was #20 in that draft and Parsons was the strike gold pick at 38. So 2011 draft had its ups and downs.

Just think in 2011 they could of had Leonard at #14, Jimmy Butler at #20, and Parson at #38.
I guess you can blame Morey for that not being our current roster of talent.

I am hoping the trade stands. Love D-mo's upside but it is just too much risk reward with contract status. I am a little concerned with the quality of this draft not knowing the foreign talent. The US talent is not deep on high end prospects.

Right, and we have him for a month and then he signs a large contract with someone else and we end up with nothing.

    Classic DD logic.

Show me a GM that will sign Dmo to a large contract after he gets sent back to a team after a failed physical.

Or - we sign him for cheap because other teams are scared and he gets healthy and we benefit.

DD - logic FTW....don't be such a negative Nancy.

As I have continually said, DM's risk averse nature and being tethered to a spread sheet, stops us ever reaching the top because RISK is how you get there.

I would much rather have a pick than deal with a role player with back pains.
