I'm clearly in the minority here, but why are you so mad? Just go online and order a new ID from DPS. It takes like a week - big deal.

It appears your ID is in a lock box.

Don't take a NO from someone who cannot SAY YES

The issue is she not so much passing the buck as much
She simply cannot do anything about it
More than likely she cannot give you a time frame because they won't give her one

Agree with this. She created the problem, but she is not empowered to fix it. Don't bother giving her grief about it. But do escalate to someone who is empowered.

This is from his original post:

Given that my passport is expired, right now I have no valid government-issued ID, no idea when I'll get my license back, and unless I get my parents to mail me my birth certificate (I know, I know, I should have it anyway) or order a certified copy, no 4-point document to get a replacement at the MVC.

So, while it may not be a BIG deal, it is a big deal for his circumstance.

The universe has your ID now. It's gone and it's not coming back.

This sort of incompetence drives me batsh1t crazy. Tell the Manager at if you don't get your ID within the next few hours then you will a) file a stolen property report with the police and b) Tell the regional Manager you have done so.

Because you know the next thing you will hear is that they accidentally sent it to the shredder....

    UPDATE:

I called the corporate HQ yesterday and explained the situation, pointing out that I've been a customer ever since they expanded to my region. Emphasized that in addition to my checking and money market accounts, I had opened CDs in the past and I invest through TD Ameritrade. Also told them that I was aware that Iron Mountain charges an on-call service fee for any nonscheduled visits, and that I was suspicious that the branch was just stalling to avoid paying it (thanks HP).

At the end I threatened them with an identity theft report and the closure of all my accounts if I didn't get my license back by the end of the business day.

Within two hours I got a voicemail from my local branch, telling me that the earliest they could get someone over would be the next morning, but that I'd be compensated for my inconvenience (which I didn't ask for when I called corporate to complain). Picked up my ID after work and a $100 visa gift card. Drinks are on TD tonight.

Thanks guys. Rep to all who offered advice (without calling me a p***y, lol).

Nice win, I know playing the nice guy works sometimes, but enough is enough... I mean Wtf did the bank think you were going to do with no ID??? I always start out nice.... But typically have to go over the rep.

To be fair, you were being a p***y and overly worried about the consequences to the lower level employee. Everything was said with good intentions. You're welcome. ;)

Sounds like you did a good job at being a hard-ass in the end, and it worked. Good job and congrats.

I don't think the OP mentioned a 419 scheme being involved.
