Take a tour of CERN, travel to Mont Blanc by cable car and perhaps ski there, eat fondue, spend a day walking around a nearby picturesque little village and shop for a cuckoo clock from there. There's also the UN building where you can have your picture taken behind the main podium. Plus it's beautiful inside and around, with a giant broken chair display as opposition to land mines: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palace_of_Nations https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broken_Chair
If you have time, take a day trip out of Geneva. Go around the lake and hit up Montreux. I used to live in Leysin. So many great towns and cities to visit in Switzerland.
I live in Geneva, been living here since 2010. 1 week is WAYYY too long... You'll have to get out of Geneva city for sure. Are you visiting family or vacationing? What do you like to do? Around the lake: -some casual, trendy bars set up in the evening -jet d'eau (water jet; not always turned on) -nice places to jog and hang out -take the ferry across to Yvoire, FR or Lausanne Parks: -reformation wall in Parc des Bastions -botanical gardens @Villa le Chene -Parc La Grange Tourist things: -Old Town/Cathedral can be nice to stroll around and have a cup of coffee -CERN -UN Outdoors: -Mont Saleve is closest and provides a cityview of GVA -nice hiking trails around Mt. Jura -I'd recommend getting a train pass so you can travel around the country. Visit Interlaken, Zermatt (Toblerone peak), Montreux... you can do each of those in a day. General: -USD:CHF is 1:1 but value is more like 2:1... ex. big mac meal is 16 USD. If money is tight, it will be very difficult to enjoy dining and shopping. Try to hit up restaurants and shopping in France (very close). -Groceries- Look for Coop or Migros (they're like mini-walmarts) -Public transport is great, but i encourage to do everything on bicycle. Free rentals @geneveroule.ch -Take advantage of the beautiful outdoors here because the city life doesn't compare to US cities.
