The only hardcore act I see on the list is NWA. That being said, as close to that as possible on the list is Wu-Tang and PE.

But what of a one "Tupac Shakur?" Or a one "Biggie Smallz?"

    How soon we forget.

BTW- all H-town gumbo rap and DJ Screw style drop is pretty much hardcore... these days. BUt not all dirty south is hardcore. You can take all No Limit and 504 boyz, Cash Money and junk like that and put into the "closest to bubble gum rap" in years category... at least what is on the radio.

As for recent lyrical geniuses - see "Nas : One Mic" and some of "Luda"

    Spice -1
    Too Short
    Ron C.
    Nemesis
    2 Live Crew
    Kid Sensation
    Criminal Nation
    Big Daddy Kane
    Eric B. & Rakim
    Cool C.
    Steady B.
    LL Cool J
    Run DMC
    DJ Quick

anyway all of these acts had MOMENTS of hardcore-ness, but were mostly in genres all their own.

NWA, CUBE, TMT, GETO BOYS, SCARFACE set the hardcore scene en fuego. Then came PAC...

How can there be a thread about hardcore rap groups with no mention of M.O.P?

Their hands down the most hardcore rap group ever.

Some other good hardcore groups are Capone-n-Noreaga and Mobb Deep

Jwun, first off I'm glad someone finally brought up J-Live in all these best rap threads. But you kind of proved the point of some of the people you were arguing against. All those rappers that you quoted with the exception of Nas are all pretty underground. I think that MadMax and others were arguing that today's mainstream rap isn't what it used to be. They did say that there is still good underground music though.

Dude I said Digital Underground, just so I could slip 2Pac in there. We are talking about groups, not an individual rapper, right?

Good pick on 2 Live Crew.

Well first off, I disagreed with these comments. I believed I quoted them. There is no mention or attempt to define mainstream/underground, seemed like generalizations to me.

The post where I listed the lyrics were in reply to this.

If I proved anybody else's point its probably because I wasn't disputing what they wrote.
