If Strong does badly next year, I'm sure the UT can EASILY double or triple Herman's pay to come back to UT. UH is a launching pad for top coaches. I think Baylor would have been the best team in Texas if they didn't have their qb injuries based on talent.
Interesting. So UT could pay Tom Herman up to 9 million a year? If they could get any coach/pay any amount why do they have Charlie Strong?
Tom Penders can probably attest to that. Some of their individual alumni can and do buy and sell the entire department overnight.
They were willing to pay Saban 10 million. He just used it as leverage to get to 7 million. Charlie Strong is getting 5 million and he is not close to being as hot as Herman is right now. Herman has a national championship as an OC, and beat FSU with a bunch of two star recruits.
The rumor was that they were willing to pay Nick Saban that much money. http://www.forbes.com/sites/chrissm...le-teams-2015-texas-notre-dame-and-tennessee/ A mediocre 5-7 record, three straight years without a top-10 recruiting class, a TV deal falling far short of expectations — and still the uncontested most valuable team in college sports. Sounds like just another year for the Texas Longhorns, who for the seventh year in a row top our list of college football’s biggest cash cows. Texas’ team value is up 16% this year to $152 million, and that climb to the stratosphere should hardly be a surprise at this point. Last season Texas generated an unprecedented $121 million in revenue; the Longhorns remain the only college football team to ever break the $100 million revenue mark, which they’ve done for four straight years. Even more staggering: The team booked $92 million in profit. Alabama, arguably the most popular team in the nation, only managed revenue of $97 million.
Strong had 2 as a DC and beat Michigan in a BCS bowl with the same type of players. If Herman comes to UT, it won't be because we can double or triple his salary IMO, although I'm sure he wouldn't mind if we did.
How did a thread about UH become about UT? UT sucks and didn't even make a bowl with all their $ and 5 star recruits.
There is a big difference between Herman and Strong. Strong was 7-6 his first two seasons at Louisville. He beat Michigan in his 3rd season and had plenty of 3 star and 4 star recruits by then with Bridgewater being a solid 4 star. Herman did what he did this season with 2 and 3 star recruits with an undersized 3 star quarterback. They both won with Urban Meyer but Herman is a lot younger.
Well congrats on winning the revenue championship. But as a sports fan, I don't give a crap. The chase for money is not good for the fan of college sports.
This was to show that we can easily outbid houston when he's ready to leave. Sumlin left for bigger money.
Again why in the hell are you bringing this up in a thread about UH? Especially the day after we won a huge bowl game!!! I know your Whorns weren't good enough to make a bowl this yr. Tinman you are NO freakin different than big prick texx!!! Did UT all of a sudden come into $$$? They've always had it, and what did it get them? Charlie Strong!! Take your BS to a Whorns thread prick!!!!
I was answering someone else's post. Go celebrate. I didn't mean to rain on your celebration. Just want to steal your coach
Herman seems to be the type of coach that wants to build up a program and make it his own, he doesn't seem like the type to chase money like Kevin Sumlin did (who is on his way to getting fired and his reputation is taking a beating) or running off to be just the next guy at a program larger than the head coach. If Herman turns UH into a powerhouse, he becomes a coaching legend. I think that's his goal, and the fact that he turned down more money from UH in order to put it back into the program shows that.
Would he not have to answer to booster at UT? Would he be able to limit his interactions with the AD at UT? Would he be able to decide when he wants to and not want to speak to the media? Would he have save over expansion of facilities/program? Where he is at right now, he can essentially do anything he wants with very few obligations. Herman has spoken before about the positives and negatives at huge programs (he used Ohio State as an example). He has spoken about his dislike of the politics he saw Meyer had to endure at Ohio State. He also spoke about the positives as well. Herman may very well ultimately leave (he did speak for a short time to S.C.), but this assumption he is ultimately ticketed for UT is really premature. There is a reason UT has Strong now as their coach. Also it is likely UH will be in a P5 conference and have the financial resources to offer Herman 5-6 million a year. The situation wouldn't be much different than Gundy at Oklahoma State. There are a number of talented coaches available as well.
That's fine.... UH will be abLe to offer his 5-6 million if necessary. If UT wants to offer him 10-12 million go ahead. Don't really care if you think Baylor would have been the best team in Texas, because ultimately they were not.
