Hard to criticize Howard's effort level when he's a spectator on offense

4 shot attempts in 31 minutes played. ZERO attempts in the second half, his last one was a made bucket and came with 5:23 left in the second quarter. Every single person with a functioning brain knows that you need to feed your big men to keep them happy. Absolutely putrid coaching job by JB.

It's soo much better letting Harden play iso ball, then chuck up a three or pass it with a second left to a covered teammate. Or you can just get the ball to TJones and slowly die while waiting for him to make his move and brick a layup. He's not passing the ball back, that's for sure. Playing smallball all of a sudden in the fourth quarter is also going to help.

The whole feed the big man is just shaq trolling, he got fed the ball because he was really really good.

Does DeAndre need to be fed to give effort on the defensive end? nope, Tyson Chandler? nope, what other big men do you feel need to be fed or the mope on defense?

He's not Hakeem, but he deff. needs the ball more. Hard to rally your big man when you freeze him out like that.

DeAndre *almost* left for the Mavs because he wanted a bigger role in the offense, Hibbert was always whining during his tenure in Indiana, Cousins are Whiteside are known for complaining and slowly returning to defense when they're open and don't get the ball. The difference between them (excluding Boogie) and Dwight is that Dwight is a proven, career 18 ppg scorer in this league. Just a week ago, he completely dominated DeAndre and the Clippers because his teammates were finding him early and rewarding his runs to the basket. Why can't the Rockets do that on a night-to-night basis? Heck, even DMo doesn't get enough post ups per game. In and out, it's a simple and effective game.

We don't need to post him up, but he should get more shots.

As many as last year would be fine.

He shoots 59% from field, same as last year.

He doesn't even know how to play offense so it doesn't matter

They try to get the ball to Dwight he can't catch passes and he calls for the ball when he is in a bad position. You can go to Dwight all you want he's one of the worst post up centers in league history. And if he gets fouled he won't make them. The team has seen this first hand which is why he doesn't get the ball.

    1. Ball gets stolen.
    2. Dwight fumbles the ball. Blames the passer (Too strong, too high, too low etc.)
    3. Dwight gets ball running hook (brick)
    4. Dwight gets doubled (Wild pass out of bounds, turnover)
    5. Catches the ball, makes move rolls off his knee turnover.
    6. Gets fouled on Hook attempt (Misses Free Throws)

These are the reasons why Dwight seemingly doesn't get shot attempts. There is no conspiracy Dwight Howard isn't Hakeem Olajuwan, he's not Tim Duncan, He's not Dirk. He's Dwight Howard he should be setting picks and screens and rolling hard to the basket but he refuses to do that (The only offensive thing he's good at). Because he is pouting about not getting the ball. It's sickening.

    It matters.

Dwight needs to get touches so he can be engaged on the defensive end. Some of you guys think it is childish, it is what it is. Make sure Dwight is fed and reap the rewards. There are so many possessions in a game it makes no sense that everyone can't be happy.

    Lesson learned-

Feed the big dog, and he guards the house.

    Game opens up from there

He should have at least 3-4 baskets per game off of offensive rebounds/putbacks. His lack of effort is embarrassing. Go get your shots!

The reason why he shoots 59% now is because he's not posting up. He should be getting the easy buckets not those awful back to the basket running hooks.

It's a shame how many times he has his man pinned and ready for the easy dunk and he just gets ignored by his team mates for a frequently covered and tightly defended 3 instead. I agree with the OP, I can see why Howard is disillusioned.

He does need the ball a little bit more.

You can't run PNR the whole game.

Deandre does that and he has Chris Paul and Blake and still wanted a larger role .

The only person who Howard can throw the PNR is Harden who may or may not just take it himself. Thornton who hardly plays and Lawson who hardly plays.

Getting the ball a little bit more cant hurt

About same percentage as a contested 3.

If the contested three guys get fouled atleast they can make the shots. If they get doubled they can pass the ball. Dwight can't do either of those things. Dwight should shut the hell up and get the rebound Kobe was right. He is a mental weakling. He was aggressive that one game in calling for the ball that's why he got it. He stopped being aggressive but blames everyone else. Typical Rocket these days.

Oh I completely agree, but if that is what it takes to keep him engaged, you do it.

You would think that 21 million per year would be enough for him to be engaged for 32 minutes per game. I don't think the Rockets are getting their money's worth.

So we should have harden dribble it off his foot or pass it off to ariza with 2 seconds so he can brick a 3. Blame jb for this putrid game plan.
