I do genetics research for my job. It is very likely true that high level black athletes are more athletic than high level white athletes, but it is unlikely that the average black person is more athletic than the average white person.

The reason is that there is more human genetic diversity in Africa than anywhere else. People often compare blacks to whites. But there can be more differences comparing blacks in one part of Africa to another part of Africa. Whites and Asians are each relatively homogeneous because a small population migrated out of Africa ~100,000 years ago. But the population that stayed behind was a lot more diverse.

So if you want to find any "world's most extreme" physical attribute, you're more likely to find it in a person from Africa than anywhere else.

For attributes determined by training or how you grew up, anything goes.

 

The more relevant factor is that the African bell curve is wider, not whether the average is shifted right or not.

 

During March Madness I see a lot of white kids who play basketball. Unfortunately, they, just aren't good enough to play in the NBA. In fact, most of them know that they'll never even get a call to camp.

If it's wider on the high end, it has to be wider on the low end, too, for the average to stay the same, right? If it's only higher on the high end, the average would then be higher too.

Yes, it should be wider on the low end as well. It's hard to define that low end group, since at the very extreme they wouldn't even make it to childbirth, an effect that could slowly shift the average up over time. It's certainly possible that the average for blacks is higher than that for whites. But whether or not it is true, you'd still see the most athletic people in the world often being from Africa.

In the U.S., it's often argued that slavery led to selection for the strongest, an effect which could make the average African American more athletic than the average Caucasian American (I don't know if it's true or not). But that's different from what explains the athletic outliers. This outlier effect also explains why in the Olympics many countries with diverse histories are represented by athletes with African ancestry.

Asians as a group are about as diverse as Caucasians. Again, sorry, but I have no idea what the average athleticism is in each group.

 

There are no "white players" from other countries. They are called "Euros." It is easy to tell the difference. White players have high motor. Euros have high basketball IQ.

 

And they play for the Texans.

because hockey and baseball (anymore) are not popular in the black community.

basketball on the other hand is very popular among white people in america.

 

Sports culture. Those just aren't black/hip hop/urban sports.

 

Its more than just culture, its about the rate of success in certain sports.

White players chance of success in the NFL will be either QB or a lineman, the chance of being a good QB is extremely low, and even a great lineman won't make much money.

While a good white player in MLB or NHL can be seen in so many different position, the chance of having a good career in those 2 sports for white players are much, much higher.

 

Same can be said to certain sports, who is the last truly great WHITE heavy weight boxing champ you remembered?

Its a brutal and physical sport (similar to football in some situation), races does matter.

 

I'd pick hockey, more jobs and far less kids training for it.

 

Some may want to argue that NBA is not a brutal and physical sports like NFL, that's just not true.

Yes it may have less physical contacts, but the physical requirements and the punishments put on your bodies just is different.

Yao is a great player, but if he is white instead of Asian, he could have a longer career, and if he is black, he could be one of the top 10 players all time.
