Found this interview of Steve Francis by Sohu.com Sports.

IMHO, I don't like his wait-and-see attitude. I think he should forego his ego, just go hit the gym, work on his game, prove it to Rick Adelman in team practice/scrimmage that he is getting back into his competitive shape and form, and that he is better than both Rafer Alston and Mike James.

Sohu.com Sports Zhang Yi Reports from Dallas

US Dallas Local Time November 5 evening (Beijing standard time November 6), the Houston Rockets lost 98 ~ 107 away to Dallas Mavericks and had its first bitter taste of defeat of the new season. Tracy McGrady scored 35 points and dished 8 assists; Yao Ming scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.

For the consecutive 4 games, Steve Francis still could not get back into the rotation. His spirit and pride slowly eroding, the current Steve Francis obviously looked a bit discouraged, but still he kept waiting, waiting for his opportunity (to get back into the rotation and the court). Before every game, he would always hug his small brother Big Yao, and during the competition, he would sit on the floor in front of the bench, watching the development on the field. And on this evening of November 5th, Sohu.com Sports conducted the following interview with Steve Francis in the players’ changing room of the visiting team.

Sohu.com Sports: How do you feel now that you’ve returned to Houston?

Francis: The feeling is extremely great; my family members are all here and I have my own house here, and I have always wanted to come back. And (while I was with the Magic and the Knicks), I still came back to Houston in every of the off-seasons. I’m extremely happy to be able to become a Rockets once again.

Sohu.com Sports: So the city of Houston has some special significance to you?

Francis: Absolutely. I love this city. I like the people here. And I am going along well with a lot of people here.

Sohu.com Sports: But currently you’re not in the rotation roster; so are you satisfied with this kind of situation?

Francis: This is some very tough and difficult situation, as every basketball player will want to go on court to play; but this is something out of my control, and it is the head coach’s decision. I surely hope the current situation will change.

Sohu.com Sports: So have you talked it over with the head coach?

Francis: Well we had talked this over; he only told me that it needs some time, and after a period of time, there maybe an outcome to this matter.

Sohu.com Sports: But, you believe that you still have the ability to play and compete?

Francis: Yes. Absolutely.

Sohu.com Sports: So how is your body condition now?

Francis: My body condition is good, and I think it will get better still. I hope I will have the opportunity to play, and my body condition can get better.

Sohu.com Sports: As far as Rick Adelman’s tactical systems is concerned, do you think it is suitable for you and you can adapt to it?

Francis: I felt extremely good with this new system; (I think) the essence of this new systems is to make your shots and play smart basketball.

Sohu.com Sports: How do you feel to be able to (reunite with and to) become team mate with Yao Ming once again?

Francis: I just felt wonderful; we have always been great buddies for so long, and we’re extremely happy to be back together.

Sohu.com Sports: When you had to decide whether you should return to the Rockets, did Yao Ming ever give his advice to you?

Francis: Yes, at that time he was in China and was preparing for his wedding ceremony; we had had several telephone conversations; it’s great feeling to be able to play/fight together again (with him).

Sohu.com Sports: Now did you find a completely different Yao Ming on court?

Francis: Yes, he has matured a lot; Yes he had grown and developed a lot, and I hope he can make it to another level and become much better.

Sohu.com Sports: Do you think you and Yao Ming can contend for the NBA championship this season?

Francis: I hope we can; I really hope we can.

Sohu.com Sports: You have a huge fan base in China.

Francis: Yes, I love my Chinese fans; I hope I can go to China next year during the 2008 Olympic period to meet with my fans. I am eagerly anticipating for making that trip.

Sohu.com Sports: You mean you plan to go to China during the 2008 Olympics?

Francis: Yes, it’s highly likely so.

Sohu.com Sports: So what have you to say to your supporting Chinese fans?

Francis: I want to say Thank You to all my supporting Chinese fans. I also anticipate that I am going to have a very good season and contribute to the Rockets to repay the vast support from everybody.

Sohu.com Sports: (You know) there are many Chinese fans hoping to see you play.

Francis: I hope I can; let’s wait to see what happens next.

Sohu.com Sports: This question is somewhat sensitive. If there will be no change to the current situation, will you demand a trade?

Francis: Not now. I don’t think I will. I will wait and see what happens next. I certainly don’t know what will happen next.

Hi.

At first i want to say hello to everybody because i am new here.

On one hand, i've got the same opinion as pryuen, Steve should really hit the gym and get ready for the game.
On the other hand, i can understand his feelings a little bit. I mean he came back to Houston and is sitting outside the roster ervery game now. And i don't think that his condition is as bad as you hear it all the time.

I hope they find a way to get him in the game and let him proof that he can still make it. He's not the youngest player anymore, but i think he is still able to do some damage to the other team. And him playing together with Tmac and Yao should be a deadly combination.

(Sorry for any mistakes in my english but i am european).

HOW do you know it's a fake interview? Do you know there are a couple of Chinese reporters from Sohu, Basketball Pioneers, Titan Sports, Sina.com stationing there in Houston and travelling with the Rockets on away games covering news about Yao Ming and the Rockets?

Zhang Yi is one of those reporters. He surely did not write as rosy/poetic as Wang Meng, but a lot of times his articles are as informative as Wang's.

francis has said he's in good condition. he just needs to get in game-shape, like bonzi said last year, and the only way to get in game-shape is to play games. however adelman wont be playing francis anytime soon unless an injury occurs so he will defintely have to "wait and see".

Steve appreciates support
Rockets guard Steve Francis said he appreciated fans in Toyota Center on Saturday calling for him to get playing time, but that it would not and should not influence coach Rick Adelman's decision-making about playing time.
"It was unbelievable," Francis said. "The fans always embraced me, even when I wasn't a member of the Houston Rockets. It meant a lot to me. The thing that is scary is what if I come in and miss my first two shots?

"I definitely love the support, but that should not make a difference to the coach's decisions. I not going to say that it should, but do I want to play? Hell, yes."

Francis, however, said he did not expect to play Saturday in Houston or Monday against the Mavericks. He played in neither.

"It's not my decision," he said. "We're 3-0 right now. Nothing is going to change. I'm just going to be patient and stay mentally strong. It's hard."

I am sure Adleman is thinking about Steve when he hears those people scream for him. Let's see how long it takes him to get back into the game.

I hope this article puts a rest to the "Steve is pouting, he is not a team player" arguements. He even made it a point that it should not and would not make a difference on his situation.
