Minor correction: Your article indicates that Sam Dekker is among the players shooting over 38% from three, but he's sub 35% currently.
Nice article. Wish Harden and Gordon would run that 1/2 DHO more often like EGo does with Bev. I don't see how defenses could stop it. Harden is bigger to set a better screen, and if Harden rolls and gets a pass, there is no way a defense can stop him from scoring or hitting another wide open 3 point shooter from whomever they help off of to try and stop it.
Thanks everyone! So Harden/Gordon do run the DHO, but more times than not Harden will be used as a decoy to drag strong-side defenders towards him and allow Gordon to run a quick screen and roll to drive inside and create penetration or score.
Agree. Then again, wouldn't the Rockets want to save the really good stuff for when GS, SA, or LAC don't see it coming.
The dribble hand off is one of my favorite plays. I realized it for the first time when Gordon and Harden ran it earlier in the year and was like man, its so simple and effective when you have two guards with the ability to attack a pick and roll. Defenses have to respect it and sag, wait and dont attack the roller, leaving a wide open 3 on a simple hand off. Its so beautiful.
Correction: Gordon (112) now has more 3s made than Curry (110). Gordon did however play 1 more game than Curry. (30 vs 29)
Thanks for the correction. Yup! And Curry does play tonight. Unfortunately I wrote my story yesterday and didn't update the numbers before publishing.
Nice. Harden with the ball off the screen with shooters spaced around him, almost impossible to defend. I am expecting Ryno to have a bigger impact in the second half of this season. He has to shoot with confidence. You can't pass up the open shot we work hard to get.
Anyone notice that Gordon has this under hand release which always looks a little too strong. But, it works.
Great write up! I love that "screen the screener" play where Gordon sets the screen on Nene's man while Nene screens for Harden. Completely confuses the defense and has worked over and over again. Fun team to watch!
