Verlander was considered to be somewhat washed up before he came here too.... sometimes a change of scenery... especially to a contender can really have a positive effect. Here is hoping.
Go to Amyc23 Instagram page. She has a story up and like 30 min before the trade they are all in the limo : drunk partying. I’m sure he’s celebrating too. Who wouldn’t want to be here!?
Woohoo! Adding an elite talent at the SP position while still having options if you want to add more via trade or free agency? Sign me up. Now we await the Yankees counter move haha.
What's scary is that Luhnow is getting even BETTER at being truly an MLB/war-time GM. The Verlander trade was make/break for last season. Now, he's making the sort of deals that other team's fans hate. And just in case they predictably can't afford to re-sign everybody, he's probably already looking forward to doing what he knows best... jump-starting a rebuild when the current window eventually slows down (which hopefully isn't for at least 5 years).... provided he hasn't been given a king's ransom to take over some other big market team.
Two seasons ago McHugh was the #2 starter and now he doesnt even project into the top 5. This is nuts and I ****ing love it SO PUMPED!!
2 spots open and we haven't committed big money to anyone yet...I don't think we are done. Cain? Martinez? Lucroy?
I think this is a no brainer trade for both ends. Cole has the potential to rebound into greatness and the Pirates have at least a couple above average players heading their way. Potentially more. Musgrove is questionable as a starter but he very well may be come the dominant bull pen guy we wanted. Cole’s performance last year didn’t give them the opportunity to get one of our higher end guys. Love that he may be joining an ever growing list of pitchers that come here and thrive. Awesome trade.
Just like to point out that Peacock and McHugh would be opening day starters on some (mediocre) teams. They don't even make this 5 man rotation.
