If the Rockets come in on Friday at home and blow out the Spurs, it won't say much. We can all praise them for being dominant, but what we really should judge them on isn't their performances against the good matchups. It's the bad matchups. If you can't beat the bad matchups (even if it's by 5 points), then you're not championship material. If they can't beat the Pelicans on Sunday (Randle will probably abuse Capela) or the Bucks next week, they're just not championship material. A truly formidable team is good enough to beat the bad matchup teams. We have yet to prove that we can consistently beat good front-court teams. If Capela can't guard the bully centers, then we desperately need another center for next year (and no, not Tucker).

I disagree. It means the Rockets hold on to the 3 seed for another day. Big game. Don't let @BasketMAD tell you anything different.

There should be a single ‘Official BasketMAD Random Thoughts Thread’ so I can avoid one thread instead of accidentally entering useless thread after useless thread.

From a seeding perspective, it means a lot, but it doesn't say much about the team if they beat the Spurs for like the 7th time of 8.

beating the Spurs may not mean much - but it would still mean more than this thread....

seriously... we're now gonna start threads to debate the meaning of theoretical results of games that havent been played yet...? really?

    ...smh...

    dumbass thread

Rockets consistently beating good teams and having 1 of the best records in the league for many weeks now means more than the occasional loss to bad teams

you’re the type who only watches the Rockets and doesn’t pay any attention to the rest of the league...good teams lose games they’re not supposed to all the time

a win against the Spurs means more than a loss against the Grizzlies...foh

OP, you don't make any sense.

We're not going to face garbage teams in the playoffs, so by your logic, we'll be fine.

A "truly formidable team" does not mean that team should be able to beat the bad teams. It means they should be able to beat the good teams, aka playoffs.

Disagree. The games against good teams obviously matter far more. They obviously tell you far more about the team, as well.

However...the Rockets insistance on blowing game after game against bad teams is A) why Harden won't win MVP, B) why the Rockets won't have home court advantage, and C) why Harden/Paul won't get adequate resting for the playoffs.

I agree. The Warriors didn’t beat the Spurs or Suns. Bad match ups for them. The Warriors should just fold up there franchise, they are not championship worthy.

I also am horrified about our chances matching up against the Pelicans in the playoffs.

Can't lose a game at home. Just can't. We're 3 loses away from being the Thunder.

as if championship teams don't drop games to the worst teams in the league. what a pointless thread

apparently houston is the only team in the world that goes through the riggers of an nba season and every other team is just smooth sailing. let us know when you wake up

Agreed. This is a HUGE game. Never mind the 3rd seed. Losing to the Spurs would result in a 2-2 season series split which would potentially give them the tiebreaker and put the division and home court in Round 1 at risk. This is a MUST win.
