Looking to switch for a better rate on powertochoose.org, curious if you guys have any recommendations.
I switched from Reliant to Bounce to PennyWise in the last year. They're all about the same. Just choose the best deal you find. I'd suggest getting a longer contract so you don't have to keep on worrying about it and switching companies. Unless you're real good about keeping on top of that. I just signed for 12-months because previously I would forget that my contract expired and would get hit with at least one month of month-to-month rate.
Just got (back) on with First Choice power, got a partial month, 20-day bill from them: First Choice Power Base charge 4.95 Energy charge 1,223 (kWh) total @ $0.04/kWh 48.92 Oncor Electric Delivery Out of cycle meter reading 1.90 Taxes Sales tax 0.71 Miscellaneous Gross Receipts Tax Reimbursement 1.12 PUC assessment 0.09 Total charges for Sep 29, 2011 - Oct 19, 2011 $57.60
Hmm, First Choice doesn't show anything lower than a 12.8 rate. Kinetic Energy has a nice rate. So does 'Amigo Energy'.
I'm about to switch back to Amigo after going with Mega Energy. I liked that Mega is a major sponsor of UH football, but my bill has spiraled upwards every month of my contract. Last month they charged me $320 for my two-bedroom apartment. Yeah, no. Mis Amigos never tried to bone me like that. I'll send my own money to the Cougars.
GEXA from Reliant. Now saving at least 50 a month. Earning at least 100 OnePass miles a month. Recvied 200 dollar gift card. Helping the environment by using wind power.
Call Reliant. Don't look at their rates online. Tell them you want the Basic Power-6. It's like 8 cents pkWh. best deal in town, but you have to ask for it.
Funny how REP threads pop up with the regularity of relationship threads. Haha, my company just bought them. You are now at my mercy. Justtxyank, be careful not to compare a 6-month rate to a 12-month rate. The power commodity market is seasonal, and winter prices are always lower than summer prices. I can't speak to what Reliant offers on the phone for the Basic Power 6, but in general the internet is the thinnest-margin channel. Powertochoose shows Basic Power 6 at 7.7 cents. OP, my advice is get a fixed 12 month, because it levels out the seasonality. Don't go variable or you'll pay the fattest margins. And don't renew without shopping prices all over again. Oh, and I have a friends & family rate I can share if you're interested. Message me if you want it, and I'll go dig up the code again (I think I posted it here before).
Bounce has been pretty good for me. Cheap rates and good perks. I pay with my credit card so I get extra points. If you sign up use my referral code and you get (and I) get 50 dollars off our bills. http://www.bounceenergy.com/refer-a-friend/raf/1162199
i always try to find a provider that dont charge a monthly "base charge" or sometime aka "service fee", like centerpoint(gas). You should only pay for your actual usage plus tax, that's it.
