The studio is difficult because it is completely unforgiving. Everything is magnified because you can hear every damn thing.

Plus, there is the pressure of knowing that what you play will be permanent - as permanent as CD's can be. When playing live, there is a sense of being in the moment. With the studio, that one moment is recorded to be played over and over again forever.

Then there are all the asthetics...

    Playing without an audience.
    Playing in a confined space.
    Wearing headphones.
Sometimes having to change your set up and basic sounds to fit the recording process.

It's all pretty awkward, especially for drummers because of the difficulty of punch-in's and overdubs for drums.

BGM - how did you find out about those bands? They look like something off of Punk-o-rama or that other punk compilation that they have.....Atticus or something.

I picked up Punk-o-rama 8 recently.....33 songs on this one. For 5 bucks of course, as always. Saw some Vans Warped Tour compilation in the store for the same price recently, with an obscene amount of songs as well.

That's basically how I get turned onto these bands. The only CDs I buy these days are the extremely cheap compilation CDs like Punk-O-Rama and the Warped Tour discs. Once I listen to bands I like on these CDs, I rip mp3s off of Kazaa. I guess I justify doing this by replacing my "CD money" with "Merchandise/Concert money"

I love the way these bands get together and turn out cheap CDs...

As for older bands, I just searched and scoured the internet for band names, and then I downloaded the hell out of them.

BGM, where did that "Underwear" song come from by Sugarcult. I don't think that's on their debut.

That Bad Religion song is on a CD called "All Ages" and is pretty much the best songs. Every song off of it is worth downloading.

"Unity" might be my favorite punk song of all-time; "Operation Ivy (Energy)" by Op Ivy is one of the greatest albums of all-time, IMO. I think half of Op Ivy went on to form Rancid.

OK, do y'all ever order CDs from Columbia House and either wonder why you did or you totally forgot ordering them? Regardless, I'll be giving these a play in the next few days:

    The Breeders-Title TK
Live-Birds of Prey (Jeez, I hated the last one, no idea why I ordered this one)
Pink Floyd-Dark Side of the Moon
    Nas-God's Son

talk about an underrated band. "Downward is Heavenward" was a masterpiece. It's just too bad they broke up. They have a huge cult-like following..
