Anthony prefers move to Bulls, Knicks

Carmelo Anthony(notes) still hopes to persuade the Denver Nuggets to trade him, preferably to either the Chicago Bulls or New York Knicks, an NBA source with knowledge of Anthony’s wishes told Yahoo! Sports.

The Knicks have limited assets to offer the Nuggets, which makes the Bulls a more appealing potential trade partner. The Bulls can offer a replacement small forward in Luol Deng(notes), as well as two young forwards in James Johnson(notes) and Taj Gibson(notes). New York officials would like to make a run at signing Anthony next summer if he were to opt to become a free agent. The Knicks will have salary-cap room with Eddy Curry’s(notes) contract expiring after the season.

While Anthony would prefer a trade to either the Bulls or Knicks, he knows the Nuggets could decide to send him elsewhere. Yahoo! Sports has previously reported that the Los Angeles Clippers, New Jersey Nets and Houston Rockets have expressed interest in Anthony.

The Nuggets have offered Anthony a three-year, $65 million contract extension, but Anthony is reluctant to sign the deal because of concerns about the franchise’s future. Coach George Karl is returning from his second battle with cancer and entering the final year of his contract. Forward Kenyon Martin(notes) and guards J.R. Smith(notes) and Arron Afflalo(notes) will be free agents after this season and center Nene could join them if he opts out of the final year of his contract. Point guard Chauncey Billups(notes) also could hit the market because the Nuggets are obligated to pay only $3.7 million of his $14.2 million salary for 2011-12 if he’s waived at the end of the season.

With so much uncertainty surrounding the Nuggets, Anthony would like to be traded before the season starts. New Nuggets general manager Masai Ujiri has not had a face-to-face meeting with Anthony since he was hired on Aug. 31.

I can see Melo in a Bulls uniform but would the McNuggets take back Deng's contract? Gibson would have to be included but the picks will probably be crummy so is this something Denver would do?

We've heard Knicks, we've heard Rockets, now we are hearing Bulls

Yeah I'm just gonna stop believing this stuff and wait till a trade actually happens.

    Thanks for the article OP.

Yeah yeah, I'm sure fans are getting tired of all the inside source stuff. After a while you just get burned out and don't really care about new "inside tips" unless it says the player signed with you.

I just want the season to start, I'm tired of all the speculation drama. If he pushes to come here great, if not we'll move on and have a very good team.

Unlike the New York Knicks, the Chicago Bulls do have picks...

Phoenix' own 2011 2nd round pick to the Chicago. [Chicago - Phoenix, 7/9/2010]

2012 first round draft pick from Charlotte

Charlotte’s own 2012 1st round draft pick to Chicago (top-14 protected in the 2012 Draft, top-12 protected in 2013, top-10 protected in 2014, top-8 protected in 2015 and unprotected in the 2016 Draft.) [Charlotte - Chicago, 2/18/2010]

Problem is they are crappy picks, even the 2012 pick is top 14 protected...I doubt that is what the McNuggets are looking for unless they are willing to wait til 2014 or beyond.

If NY really wants to get Anthony without waiting for the offseason they should probably start offering up their next few lottery picks.......oh, wait, they don't have those anymore.

Also, I don't think Denver is going to bit on that Bulls offer. The story should pretty much read: The Bulls could offer an overpaid injury prone small forward and two mediocre young frontcourt players.

Can the Denver Nuggets field a competitive team with Luol Deng and Taj Gibson, while waiting for those 1st round draft picks to materialize?

We know that Luol Deng isn't the player that Melo is, but Deng is still a good small forward; and isn't Taj Gibson is that extra big body that the Nuggets badly need?

Damn, those red letters look ominous. Well, I Hope there is another flimsy wall of Hope behind that deteriorating wall of Hope. What I wouldn't give for another article mentioning Rockets and Carmelo.

Well yeah. With Chicago he has Rose and Boozer and could form a similar but slightly worse big 3 to rival the miami heat. Of course the package look way worse than the Nets or our offer (Deng+picks+gibson? LOL). I guess we'll see. My hope is though the Nyets offer Favors and Troy murphy, making them a good team (in effect making NY worse) and turning the Nuggs from dangerous to pathetic in a single move.

Wait. So Luol Deng, whom the Bulls couldn't unload for nothing back when they were in the FA sweepstakes, now can be used as the main piece for Melo? I'm sorry, but the Bulls have nothing.

Right now, if Melo sticks to his limited #of team demands, I see him being traded as a one year or half year rental. For example, if the Rockets are on pace to being a top 3-4 team in the west by mid-season, Morey may decide to go for the jugular and trade for Melo even without the extension. Kind of like Artest/R. Johnson/Beltran type of a trade.

i think morey doing that is about the same chances as morey signing peleincubus to a max deal.
