http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-all-stars-pujolsupset&prov=ap&type=lgns I dont blame him, La Russa is an idiot for not using him......bases loaded in the ninth and he keeps rowan in.....Pretty good chance to take the game..I think you would choose one of the better hitters in the league.
If ESPN weren't so busy covering the Yankees and Red Sox, they would have reported the Astros acquisition of Pujols....
Who would of been in CF if Pujols hit for Rowan? Pujols was the last man on the bench and his decision was justifiable.
Soriano has started 12 games at CF this year though its not exactly an ideal place for him. I was initially very pissed about the situation but after having time reflect it was bad but not completely absurd. I am curious as to whether not wanting to show up another All-Star by pinch hitting for him played a factor in La Russa's decision.
I think it had more to do with having someone available on the bench if the game went extra innings, since they were down a run there. Larussa even said as much in his post game interview. He also said he doesn't care if Pujols was pissed, that it was "his right as an American" - which warms my heart. (Awww.) Well, the Cardinals discord is what warms my heart.....heh. Anyway - it was a "play to tie" strategy instead of playing to win, but it wasn't dumb. It just wasn't what I'd have done.
who cares if it goes into extra innings. if it's going on too long, just throw a heater down the middle for a game ending homerun. so you lose the allstar game. big ****ing deal.
It actually can be a big deal since the winning league gets home field advantage in the World Series.
If Pujols joined the astros they'd either have to trade Lidge or buy him a life time supply of Depends since he'd crap himself everytime he walked around
I know fact aren't really significant in the whole pujols v. lidge thing. but pujols bats about .285 career vs. Lidge (including post-season AB's) with a grand total about 6 RBI's in those AB's. His career batting average is .330, otherwise.
yea, what about the other 40 players who have no shot at even sniffing the playoffs? i doubt they care. it's still an exibition no matter how much Selig wants us to think otherwise. besides, home field in baseball is overrated.
The last 7 World Series that have gone to a 7th game have been won by the home team. Whether or not it is an advantage, I bet every single major league team would want to play game one in their home park.
