I don't know where people get the stones to argue with private retail establishments. I guess if I had kids or reservations I'd think differently, but when someone says you leave don't you leave?

 

Not if you grow up in a society that teaches you to see yourself as a victim of oppression every time something doesn't go your way.

on a more serious note, i am neither white nor black. i have experienced racism (and surprise surprise itsd not only from whitey). but honestly, it doesnt affect my life. whenever it happens, i just go somewhere else where people aren't racist. most people i interact with are decent people and i don't let a few douchebags ruin my outlook on life. i have no chip on my shoulder and i don't give two ****s if people want to be douchebags. theres plenty of nice people that i can be with instead.

If the restaurant/bar.... whatever the hell it is, has historically supported and pushed for a culture of racism, then that is something that is probably illegal and is fair game for a valid suit.

However, if the policy of the bar is that men give up their seats for women, and all the other men in the restaurant have, and you have not... that is not racism, that is you simply being a rude, mannerless douche bag.

As far as former employees, well... bars and restaurants go through quite a few workers, it would not be hard to find someone to state virtually anything.

There is legitimate racism, and it does exist in the restaurant industry. However, just because you do not like the way you were treated, or the outcome of some facet of your life, it does not mean you suffered racism or sexism, or classism.

So... next time Joe, be a considerate gentleman and give up your seat to women... didn't your mama teach you anything.

I'm not a lawyer, but I thought that restaurants can just tell a patron to leave for breaking whatever rule they have in place, right?

It's one thing if the restaurant systematically only tell black people to do this when they're busy. But there's nothing to suggest that here. I don't see how this lawsuit holds up from my obviously not-legal opinion.

He has the right to be a douchebag. Forcibly removing someone for not following some stupid ass tradition shouldn't warrant getting escorted out.

 

If it became a scene and the person dropped the race card in the middle of a crowded restaurant I'd want the patron removed asap too.

If you go to a restaurant where you know their policy/traditions and get upset with the policy, it's your fault.

Tough to promote societal change when people like you would rather blame the victim than acknowledge a problem.

 

I went to both undergraduate and graduate school in Atlanta and have considered several black people as friends. I've sat on school committees concerning the state of African-Americans in American society (and particularly Southern culture). I'm no expert but I've seen racist situations in the deep South and this doesn't really trip my racism-meter.

This does reek of a "I'm Black and you can't tell me what to do because that's oppression" mentality that I've seen far too often. To me, calling someone a racist is among the worst things you say; it's a last resort when it's all but smacking you in the face and calling you 'boy', because the implications are enormous. Could there be a small component of racism here? Maybe. Could this have been something small that was blown way out of proportion by the 'race' card? I definitely think so.

I'm a minority too. I don't appreciate it when the race card gets thrown around when things don't go someone's way.

 

That one is me. Whenever a black guy (or girl, don't want to be sexist) starts of get a little piece of mind at the same time that they have good family values, the leadership of the Massive Achromatic Network calls me and I get on a plane. Bam! No more piece of mind OR good family values. That'll learn you uppity negroes. Muhahahaha!!!

 

The establishment has just as much "right" to remove said douchebag for *being* a douchebag.
